Top of Sen's Fortress

At the top of Sen's Fortress right underneath the archer near the boss room, there is a grate. If you drop down from the grate you end up on an iron beam. This is directly above the 2nd set of titanite demons. Does anybody know if there's a path down from here? I can't see anything but it's dark. Don't wanna use a homeward bone...

Keep going, and you'll end up in a room with suspended cages.
If you enter the cage, it'll act as an elevator and take you down to the bridge on the first level (the one with four swinging axes and a snakeman). Actually, it'll take you right next to the snakeman, so be ready for a battle.

You can later use the elevator to travel from bottom of the fort (well, the bridge) to the top of the fort.

I opened up that shortcut. I had dropped down to the grate and then dropped to an iron beam below the grate. I'm wondering if theres a way down to the demon pit so i can shoot them from above
