Chaos weapon effective in PVP?
Aside from Giant Dad Zwei, are there any builds that use chaos weapons in order to put stats elsewhere like endurance and vit?

I think it's possible with decent base dmg wpns like halberd, clay
it's still less powerful so u gotta be smart to get stat benefit elsewhere

Doesn't a Havelmom variant use chaos or lightning pancake maker?

Chaos Gargoyle's Halberd is a pretty good backstab stick

sl100 chaos claymore builds i guess.

The Top 3 are probably zwei/greatsword, gargoyle halberd and the great club, in no particular order. The 2h Greataxe has good dmg but it's heavy as balls and 22 str req. Anything below 300/300 split is kinda weak, outside of riposte/bs dex weapons at meta lvl. You could still get by with a claymore/kumo or whatever but they're just better on a 28/40 build.

It's only less powerful against high defense opponents, but against unarmored or cloth wearing people it can be more devastating.

With a weapon like the Claymore, you'd be trading damage for a stab in the moveset, as well as some reach. Chaos Man-serpent Greatsword or Bastard Sword easily do a lot more damage than a Chaos Claymore. Any weapon requiring less than 14 dex and 16 strength or less will be a good weapon to consider for the Chaos ascension. But, don't expect every weapon to deal damage in the same way as another. The difference between a 703 AR Chaos Zwei and a 280 AR Chaos Cestus is pretty ridiculous. When that 703 gets multiplied by counter/instability damage or critical hits, and/or gets boosts from buffs, the output will far exceed a physical weapon's damage. The only exception to this is when the opponent's defenses are higher than the attack rating of each type of damage you're dealing. In that case, you can easily exceed that when all of a weapon's damage is concentrated in one type - one number. With split damage, it's two numbers - and they're not super high on their own.

That is why split damage appears to be bad.

Split damage weapons have been demonstrated as weaker than pure physical weapons against naked opponents. A +15 Claymore with full scaling will always hit harder than a +5 Chaos Claymore with 10 humanity, regardless of armor level. The difference becomes more significant as the defenses of the opponent increase, but it's always there.

As for which weapons are viable in pvp as chaos weapons--high crit weapons, and high base damage weapons. There are plenty of high base damage weapons that also have high stat requirements, however, and these should be discounted. Typically, you want to keep your str/dex at 16 or lower if you're making a build that utilizes chaos weapons. Therefore, weapons like the Gargoyle's Halberd (and regular Halberd), as well as the Claymore/B@stard Sword, Dagger/Bandit's Knife/Rapier, and Zweihander are your best bets. Katanas can be functional but should generally be a backup, finishing weapon against an enemy with low hp. Curved swords, straight swords, spears, and fist weapons should be discounted.

(The Server can be used like the Zweihander for those that really need a curved greatsword in their lives)

Much armor and most enemies have much higher physical resistances than magical ones, though. So a naked guy isn't actually the most 'objective' thing to test against. In certain areas my Divine Flamberge +10 and Flamberge +15 do pretty much the same damage, although certain attacks vary more all across the board depending on if they're strong, weak, two handed or one handed.

a) The question is specifically looking into Chaos weapons, which deal fire damage and not magic damage and which most armors lend high defense against;
b) If a chaos weapon is less effective against a naked man than a pure damage weapon, it will be significantly less effective against an armored one. That's how split damage works in this game.
c) Your PvE experiences are pretty irrelevant, since many PvE enemies have defenses in one category or another that fail to reach 100, something that will never be found in higher level PvP.

Not really relevant to the discussion, but if you want to say bastard sword without censoring it, just put word formatting between the letters. Like so:

B[ i ][/]astard (without the spaces of course)

+15 chaos binoculars.

That's because the Claymore is not an effective choice for chaos ascension, as I just said.
I dunno, when I first played DkS I won a few fights with a Chaos Greatsword, and I didn't even have the correct stats to wield it I believe.
