Chester did not invade

He didn't invade in Oolacile and I beat Manus. When I returned to his merchant spot, only his yellow soul remained. I was human the entire time in Oolacile. I kept running along the area to get him to invade but he never did. Has this happened to anyone else?

it means that something killed him at some point. might've been a random enemy that accidentally attacked him over and over while you were afk.

Hmm it's funny because after I beat Artorias, about 9000 souls came to me for no reason while I was in the arena still. What enemy would kill him at his merchant spot?

They wouldn't attack him. There's no seeds in the first game to cause enemies to attack invaders, and mobs don't attack NPCs.

Most likely he did invade you, but he fell off a ledge somewhere.

It never said "Darkwraith Marvelous Chester has Invaded" but those 9000 souls did come to me right after Artorias. And if he had invaded, his human form would be in his merchant spot still. He invaded my first character and I killed him but he was still available afterward to buy items from. Something killed him in his merchant spot and it wasn't me.
