Cannot cast spells (even with castalyst)

Hello!

So I'm trying to cast spells and even though I have a spell (the starting fireball spell) and a catalyst (the glove-thing you get before you fight the tutorial boss) equiped I can't seem to cast spells, when I hit enemies they go on fire for like 1 second but I do remember actually shooting a fireball at least once.

What am I doing?

You need to use a pyromancy flame to cast fireball (and other pyromancies). Catalysts are used to cast sorceries and talismans for miracles (besides a few specific items).

A pyromancy flame? Sorry, I thought that was a catalyst - I have a Pyromancy Flame equipped.

hey bob i think what your trying to do is use sorcerie spells with a pyromancy flame glove which is used for pyromancy only. There are a few wands and staffs for sorceries but only one glove for pyromancy and you get it at start of game or through freeing some npc later. if you start as sorcerer you will get a catalyst for sorcery although there is also catalysts for faith They are called talismans

So now I have my fireball spell in the upper slot and the glove in the left hand slot, when I try to left-hand-attack I just seem to punch (do I need to heavy attack to shoot a fireball?)

No, right bumper should make you throw the fireball. You're making sure that you have both the pyromancy glove and the spell selected when you use it. As in both can be seen at the bottom-left in the left and top slots, respectively at the same time?
