Recommended weapon upgrade level for Blighttown?
My first run through Blighttown was with an upgraded black knight sword, so my views on the enemies's durability are skewed. Running through now with an un-upgraded Astora straight sword, I'm doing no damage to these guys. So I'd like to hear suggestions on where to shoot for, upgrade wise.

I always get to +5 before I run down there. then again, after I grab the laito in a playthrough(if I even go for it), I just take the shortcut.

A weapon that doesn't upgrade with normal titanite is fully upgraded at +5, so +2 or +3 is more than enough for Blighttown, even +1 would be fine. Of course, Astora's Straight Sword is just a bad weapon nearly on par with the Drake Sword.

A weapon that does upgrade with normal titanite should be no less than +5.

usually do it with between +5 and +10. usually +5 as I am lazy and never run back with the large ember to andre

I felt the same way on my 2nd playthrough because I was fortunate enough to get the BKS on my first, and I explored well to find the twinkling titanite in the barrels before the Taurus Demon boss fight.

:D

For Astora's Straight Sword itself, it has to be at +2 or +3, that's when the damage to most stuff that you will encounter there will be reasonable (most Blighttown critters are fairly weak to magic damage). However, you may have trouble with the boss, so either use a well-upgraded buffable weapon and coat it with Gold Pine Resin or buy a Crystal Sword or Greatsword and use that on the boss.. Astora's Straight Sword max upgrade level is +5.

If you resort to Drake Sword, you can keep it as-is or upgrade to +1. Remember that this is the LAST area Drake Sword is in any way useful.

For normal weapons, +6 is the absolute minimum (there's a nice enemy for mid-level titanite grinding there), but I generally say you should be at +8, and +9/+10 before you tackle the boss once all dat finding and grinding is done.

Thanks guy. Appreciate all the responses. Any suggestions for good, normal titanite weapons?

What stat are you boosting the most currently? because normally early game I push dex and use the uchi or falchion (blighttown drop).

I went heavy into faith right out of Taurus demon, so I could use lightning spear. I'm at about 26 faith and a little behind the curve on my strength and dex. So, the astora straight sword seemed good, for my build

Is the astora straight sword good enough to keep up through Anor Londo? Until I could get a Giant's halberd, or the dragonslayer spear

Never used it there. thats almost exclusively my catacombs weapon. It has a divine aspect to it which is ok in anor but occult would work better. I figure just try to get a back up just in case.
