♥♥♥♥ the darksign

So... I die, I leave a bloiid stain, I got scrape it up. I use my darksign, I actually lose everything. I was under the impression that using the darksign was just as well as dying.
I'm farming for the balder side sword and use the darksign. Go look for a blood stain... nope. Goodbye to 10 soft humanity.

Have any of you come to a practical use of the darksign? Why would anyone use it on purpose?

character stuck and you cant move, if you have no homeward bone/miracle you would be effed. i know i got stuck in upper blighttown once, missed a jump and couldnt move. was my only way out.

just want to get back to your bonefire and dont care about the souls, so dont want to waste a bone. can be quicker then finding a mob to kill you

...what do y'all think I don't understand? "at the cost of all humanity and souls"? We die at the cost of that as well. But, simply given the chance to reclaim them.
How unbelievable is it that I would misinterpret the description between blood stain or no blood stain? I just feel a little jipped because something happened that I didn't expect.

OP is right here - the additional more or less possibilities it offers cannot be understood by reading alone.

But also that's what this game is loved for. Like, in the beginning you see these bones in a shop and shake your head "why would you wanna spend your precious souls on that?" and some days later you learn that you wanna stock these up

The Darksign looks to me like a safety feature. If you glich into an area where you're stuck and you have no homeward bone, you can use it to unstuck yourself. Technically, if you're running for your blood stain, but notice you're likely to die, you can use the darksign to give you another chance as it doesn't remove the bloodstain. As far as I know, very few actually find the darksign useful.

I made a similar mistake when I started. I'd just grabbed my bloodstain, but figured I wouldn't make it to a bonfire because I'd run outta estus. Used the darksign to give it another shot, but realized there was no bloodstain for me to grab again.
I was a little disheartened, but I learned it in the Parish, like you, so it wasn't really a hard loss to take in the big picture.
