Bow/Crossbow Aiming PLEASE HELP

So i just bought a crossbow and a bow (on separate files) and plenty of bolts and arrows. I equipped it in my right hand, and put it to duel handed mode. I put the bolts and arrows in the correct slots. I take out the weapon, and hit the right hand attack button (right bumper). my character shoots the projectile, but i dont have any aiming reticule to target with. I cant zoom in/aim as i see people do in videos. What button do i press? (Note: I use the xbox controller for windows)
I reallly would like to be able to use these weapons, but idk how. Also, what skill (dexterity, strength, faith) do i have to lvl up to use ranged weapons?

LB and you can't zoom with crossbow.

Left bumper for controller, RMB for kb+m.

Please note that the crossbow doesn't have an aiming reticle.

oh ok thx. wait so then crossbow is sorta useless? oh or do u just target an opponent using RS and then shoot (as with fire bombs)

You just target them and shoot. It's not meant to be a sniper like a bow is, it's meant to be a defensive secondary weapon that clips opponents by surprise.

xbow is ok in your left hand, it's kinda okay just locking and shooting when you can't shoot a bow... or well you can be a pro and aim like a boss reticule-less.
imo crossbows suck here, but that's just me

You can use the Binoculars to aim with spells and crossbows.

oh like in DkS2? I never tried it here, it's not very convenient but it must work, huh? it still doesn't have aim though, only zoom.

The crossbow is actually a lethal weapon. Do not waste your time using binoculars with it. This is ridiculous. It is not meant to be a bow replacement. Crossbows are for lock-on range. Problems with any slower moving enemies who hit hard--titanite demons, mushroom parents--or even bosses can be nullified with an upgraded crossbow. I have murdered enemies and bosses with my crossbow as a mace-wielding cleric. It has been my second weapon through NG and NG+. Also great for those toxic spewing Ariamis fire throwers. Actually, any ranged enemies can be easily stopped with one. I just murdered Pharis with my light crossbow, for example.

this thread just opened me a new thing to try playing with in this game. diversity of this game is priceless! still discovering new things omg :D I tried many weapons that aren't used often but always discarded crossbows. now the time has come :D
