Manus Tips...
Alright, this dog thing has been reking me for a while now. SL ~75 or so, and I am doing roughly 200 damage a hit with a fully upgraded Gold Tracer. I'm a light armor dex/end build, using crimson armor, ring of fav/prot, and that ring that gives you 40 poise, and a fully upgraded eagle greatshield. I'll be doing pretty well, and then get locked in that grab attack and get rekt in a couple seconds. Not looking to get summon help - yet - just a couple tips on how to solo this dude. inb4 "don't get grabbed"

To my knowledge, Manus doesn't have any grab attacks; he does have a rage-flail-combo tho. It's tell looks like rage-fueld 'shrug' gesture. Get far away when you see it.

Weird, unless it just looks like a grab attack. I'll go up into the air, then fall down quite quick, and get hit more

A) he can't, to my knowledge, be bled, so if you have another dex-based weapon you can use--preferably one that can be buffed--that would be advantageous.
B) With the exception of the dark magic, 40 poise isn't enough to avoid being stunned--and there's a very simple trick to avoiding all the dark magic anyway called the Silver Pendant. Swap out the Wolf Ring for something else--Darkwood Grain Ring, Chloranthy Ring, Dragoncrest Rings, whatever.
C) If you have Power Within, use it. Just be aware of the hp drain and heal accordingly when you need to.

If you're really intent on soloing him, I'd recommend taking one or two (or more) trial runs aimed exclusively at observing his moveset and learning how to dodge it. Don't bother trying to do damage, just watch and learn the tells for all the moves. Once he exhausts your supply of estus, quit to the menu and reload, which will put you outside the fog door. You can then safely homeward bone to the bonfire for another such run. Repeat ad nauseam until you feel you have a handle on his moves.

Usually 2 well timed rolls back are enough to get away from the 5 hit combo. I'd say get rid of the wolf ring and use something else, I don't think 40 poise are enough to poise through Manus' attacks... could be wrong of course but I would use cloranthy, personally.

the problem is not exactly leveling dex, but telling everyone about it :CunningPepe:

It's not technically a grab, but it is a guaranteed combo. It's also telegraphed and relatively easy to dodge, and it locks him into a combo, letting you safely hit him with arrows/crossbow bolts/spells from a distance for a couple seconds.

Thanks m8. I have a ton of assorted rings, so I'm sure I have one of the ones you listed. I know I have Power Within, perhaps I'll have a Gough with it, hahaa...

right, cause levelling dex is like....getting a license before driving a car - it tells anyone you're such a pathetic bore
(nothing else to add - change that ring and watch his moves - if u don't bother blocking I'd think that 2handing that tracer will be enough cause more save r1-hits than with most other weapon)

If all else fails you can always stand outside the boss arena and shoot him to death.

- Munch on a Green Blossom or otherwise boost your stamina regen, you may need it.
- Don't get greedy. As usual.
- Give us your stats. Maybe we can help thee.
- As noted, poising through Manus' stuff with just 40 poise from Wolf ring is not really all that possible. Swap the ring.
- Most of Manus' damage is physical; his spells are physical/magic, and his physical attacks are, well, physical. Boosting your physical defense through armor swapping and/or Ring of Steel Protection can *really* help, particularly in NG1.
- Pyromancy is your friend.
- Spacing is your friend. Staying all up in the Father of the Abyss' junk doesn't work for everyone. If 'In' doesn't work for you, try 'out'.

Dex, light armor player here. Beat him twice in NG, once in NG+, all solo. Used Great Scythe in one NG, and Balder Side Sword on another NG and NG+. On the BSS run, I'm leveling up Faith also, so I used Great Lightning Spear, Sunlight Blade, and Darkmoon Blade also.

My playstyle is very passive, I only attack him after his jump attack or hand slam. His 6 hit combo is a good time to use the miracles. Dodged the rest of his attack and waited til my chance comes. For armor, I was using thief mask, wanderer's coat, shadow (gloves?) and legging. For rings, I went with Sun's Firstborn for those miracles, and Cloranthy. Also used Grass Crest on my left hand, loved that stamina regen.

All the best :)

Naaa, I'm not that lame, lol.

I just beat Manus first and here a some simple tips. Make sure either mid-roll or fast-roll (I was mid but fast would be better). Keep distance and watch his arm closely. His attacks are easily telegraphed if watch what his arm is doing. Dodge his attack and get a hit in. Rinse and repeat until he's dead. The only big threat is his spell attack that rains attacks all over the arena. He's not that hard once you can dodge. Just don't give up and you'll win. I spent two weeks on ONS and I eventually did it.

I did it everyone! Thanks for the help! I didn't even cheese him, lol. Took a while to get the timings on the Silver Pendant, as well as some of his other stuff. The "grab attack" is where I would get hit and go into the air, and his moveset looked as if he was grabbing me, as I would get hit and fly around more.

Anything in this game is possible, you just have to keep on trying.
