B) With the exception of the dark magic, 40 poise isn't enough to avoid being stunned--and there's a very simple trick to avoiding all the dark magic anyway called the Silver Pendant. Swap out the Wolf Ring for something else--Darkwood Grain Ring, Chloranthy Ring, Dragoncrest Rings, whatever.
C) If you have Power Within, use it. Just be aware of the hp drain and heal accordingly when you need to.
If you're really intent on soloing him, I'd recommend taking one or two (or more) trial runs aimed exclusively at observing his moveset and learning how to dodge it. Don't bother trying to do damage, just watch and learn the tells for all the moves. Once he exhausts your supply of estus, quit to the menu and reload, which will put you outside the fog door. You can then safely homeward bone to the bonfire for another such run. Repeat ad nauseam until you feel you have a handle on his moves.

the problem is not exactly leveling dex, but telling everyone about it
(nothing else to add - change that ring and watch his moves - if u don't bother blocking I'd think that 2handing that tracer will be enough cause more save r1-hits than with most other weapon)
- Don't get greedy. As usual.
- Give us your stats. Maybe we can help thee.
- As noted, poising through Manus' stuff with just 40 poise from Wolf ring is not really all that possible. Swap the ring.
- Most of Manus' damage is physical; his spells are physical/magic, and his physical attacks are, well, physical. Boosting your physical defense through armor swapping and/or Ring of Steel Protection can *really* help, particularly in NG1.
- Pyromancy is your friend.
- Spacing is your friend. Staying all up in the Father of the Abyss' junk doesn't work for everyone. If 'In' doesn't work for you, try 'out'.
My playstyle is very passive, I only attack him after his jump attack or hand slam. His 6 hit combo is a good time to use the miracles. Dodged the rest of his attack and waited til my chance comes. For armor, I was using thief mask, wanderer's coat, shadow (gloves?) and legging. For rings, I went with Sun's Firstborn for those miracles, and Cloranthy. Also used Grass Crest on my left hand, loved that stamina regen.
All the best :)
