I know and depending on your build it can really suck. The CPA exam has taken me over 175 hours of studying, and that's only for one section!
Something that I probably like more are bullet hell games.
Other games that give me the same feeling as DS are metroidvanias in general, because after all, DS world and level design are something like that.
Then I guess I also like fighting games even though I don't play a lot of them anymore.
One thing I noticed is that after DS, I practically stopped playing any strategy - turn-based stuff or in general games where stats and numbers count (lol) more than the player's skill.
Leveling INT... Casual. :D
Good thing I don't care about useless optional sidequests, lol
- STALKER series
- TES Oblivion (I dont care about Skyrim too much)
- Warlords Battlecry 3 (The Protectors mod)
- Armored Warfare
Beyond the strong sense of atmosphere, there are a lot of games that work better as an actual RPG or are better-written in general. E.g., Fallout 2, New Vegas, Final Fantasy X, IX, and VI, Pillars of Eternity, Batman Arkham Asylum, Silent Hill 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3 come to mind from what I've played.
Metroid Prime 1 and 2 and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are games with a similar style of game design as Dark Souls that I consider roughly equal in quality.
Sure, combat is still not as good as a Souls game, but the vast world, lore and modding possibilities make up for it to a considerable extent.
I mean, it's not that it sucks... it was "ok" 15 years ago.
... so, yes, it sucks.
