Prism Stone despawning behavior?
I now that they last forever timewise, but what exactly causes them to go away? Dying and homeward boning or do they only despawn when you leave the area completely? I never really use Prism Stones and I was wondering if it's not a bad idea to start (say, in the Crystal Caves)

I know they're generally there to keep you from getting lost, but exactly how useful are they?

They're good for getting that one blue slab in the crystal caves. They're good for hosting fightclubs. They're fun to spam.

But, do they despawn?

If I remember correctly they work the same way the breakable rubbish does; if you encounter a loading screen or go WAY out of the area they reset

I just want to make sure

I know that I died frequently in the caves (yay, invisible platforms), and I had to use them each time. Beyond that, I'm not sure when they despawn.

I think they only despawn upon reloading an area in some way. If you play in one session, I'm pretty sure you can successfully spam thousands of prism stones and drop your frames to 1 if you felt like doing that.

This makes me want to drop a few Prism Stones near Ceaseless, and go to Tomb of the Giants to try and spot them

The lost Izalith we see from the Catacombs is actually a different area. However, the Ash Lake we see from the Catacombs is the real deal, but you can't see the land from there.

You have it backwards. The Ash Lake is fake and impossible space, and what we see in the Demon Ruins is the very beginning area. If you don't believe me, look it up.
