Gameplay wise, ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dog a piece of ♥♥♥♥ terrible hitbox buggy piece of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ lag central area and it should feel bad for being so terrible in the first place.
A videogame or movie characters death not making you sad is totaly normal.
I for example didnt feel anything when dobby died in harry potter... and all my friends were losing their minds.
In dark souls really the way i see it, all characters have their own motivations, many of them have done attrocities, i have to kill em, i do, end of story.
Like i dont get why people feel sorry for queelags sister, i mean she is literally a monster, countless people were killed because of her just so she can feel better, why on earth would i feel sorry for that creature? Just imagine you brother or a friend of yours getting killed just so a monster can feed on his humanity, would you feel sorry for that monster? or would you avenge your brother/friend?
Quelaag didn't go out of her lair to kill people for their humanity, or at least, nothing suggests she did..
She specifically waited for undead that were fooled by the gods' supposed 'prophecy' which pretty much depended on Gwyndolin and Fraampt killing everyone who could present a challenge and went for the absolute overkill to prolong the age of fire which no longer actually benefitted Quelaag and her sister at all, and frankly was based on a lie and denying nature, in an attempt not dissimilar to the one that made them monsters.
Sif is a creature you do *not* have to kill. Gwyn stayed a Lord of Cinder for a century with just a part of his original soul. If you kill the Bed of Chaos and Nito their souls should certainly be enough for an undead to produce a significant amount of time. You kill Sif for the Covenant of Artorias to defeat an evil that was *successfully sealed away* just because Fraampt and Gwyndolin hope to produce the longest next Age of Fire possible.
At most points in the story, the so-called 'chosen undead' is not actually in the right.
Then you get to the fact that Gwyndolin engages in misguided family/father worship despite being treated like the expendable member of the family, and suddenly the Dark Lord ending becomes a lot more tempting.
So what about knight kirk? he invades and kills people to take thir humanity to the chaos covenant... Plus wonderring into a wrong place and getting killed isnt really much better, just imagine going somewhere and someone jumps you because "you came to the wrong neighbourhood"...
And the game makes you kill sif, even though as you said, maybe you wouldnt need to logically considering it. The way i see it, its just a giant wolf that tries to murder you, so i just kill him.
Plus there are other characters with sad stories such as pinwheel, and i dont see anyone getting sad over them...
Sif simply happens to be a wolf, which resembles a dog, mans best friend, so people who love dogs feel bad killing him. IRL, if for example a hugge rottweiler or doberman attacked me with the intention of killing me, i would try to murder it to keep myself from harm... same story with sif ingame, i dont think there is anything wrong with that logic.
Is Kirk the Fair Lady?
No he isn't. He acts at his own conscience and from his own viewpoint : That invading others is a quick way to gain humanity. He is punishing others for what may be his mistake or draining the resources of others in the name of his own faith.
Much like Gwyn and the Way of White are, yes.
You got a point there, my friend, technically, queelag isnt the fair lady either, but people get killed just to make the fair lady feel better, so, i dont know, its just, i cant really feel sorry, maybe im a bit cold hearted, dont know.
It all comes down to viewpoint at the end i guess...
For example i dont like invaders. my first experience in DS was that i got invaded and killed over and over and over (seriously like 20 consecutive times) trying to summon solaire and fight the gargoyles, so i never invade people, i just think its a bad thing to do...
But just as i said, points of view come into play in most parts of this great game.
It does. There's little objective good in the game and almost all characters can be interpreted in multiple ways thanks to the fragmented lore which I and pretty much everyone believes was the intention from the start.
Different people will feel bad for different characters. I do feel bad for the 'chaos siblings' (The Fair Lady and Ceaseless Discharge, specifically) since most of their tragedy is related to their family bonds and as someone who actually got along with my siblings and do have some significant family problems as well as a single 'special needs' relative I can sort of sympathize.
As an extension, I don't exactly 'get' people who go 'OH NO SIF' purely because he's a dog that stumbles around and limps after receiving a lot of damage and I'm a little skeptical of the '(s)HE'S SO FAITHFUL' crowd being the only reason for feeling sad about Sif either, especially considering a lot of people don't pay much attention to the fact that you only need to kill Sif for the Four Kings battle, who were actually no longer a threat until you released them purely for their soul, purely because someone told you to. I tend to draw a contrast with Garl Vinland and Maiden Astrea in Demon's Souls for whom I did feel bad but also recognized there *was* a need to kill.
Even the endings are very ambiguous because neither is truly 'good'.
And that one of the many things i love about this game, this aspect, its pure realism, its how things are in real life, there is no evil and good, just points of view, and interest.
Sorry fam. Had to get that out. Okay so Quelaag was basically a princess, then the old chaos corrupted her lower half, she's not a monster, k? And then, she swallowed the blight pus that was KILLING everyone in Blight Town. So then they offered her humanity to ease the pain of the blight pus. Nobody made life sacrifices. Quelaag is a beautiful caring entity.
That makes no sense.... poison ivy has simply developed defenses to stay alive and not be eaten by animals and humans... nothiing in nature is evil. Not even viruses and bacteria. Its simply nature, its all about survival. And cheese was made as a food by humans, offcourse its going to be good for humans... LOL.
What does being noob have to do with my views on a certain character? Anyways, you can justify anything in this world if you try hard enough, but saving everyone in blightown? what like the rest of the monstrocities that murder anything that moves? I dont see why that makes her any better? Plus there is still blight in blightown, the whole place is toxic, so she didnt achieve much now did she?
