2. Yes agreed, they should've added the City too.
3. Not exactly, it's much more forgiving than old version. Also, you don't need to give gifts very often for the bachelor/bachelorettes, if you get heart cutscene, high chance for the npc to increase 1/2 heart if the outcome is positive (p/s: save regularly, you can now access save Journal wherever).
4. You don't need to if you don't want, because once you unlock bathroom in year 2 (it's free unlock btw), you can increase stamina just by taking a shower. The brush is fairly cheap but you don't need to if you have other stuffs to buy to make more money.
5. It's a roleplaying and story driven game. As for the seeds, meh I got used to more redundant, grindy stuffs and difficult games, so bear with and don't pay much attention to it.
I hate story of seasons franchise to be honest, but this "Sos: A Wonderful Life", is a lot more better than other SoS franchise and the old version once you progress a little further. I agreed, I played bunch indie games that has better and more new gameplay than this, but I do in fact enjoyed it (except for the price tag). The charm and beauty of this game will slowly came to you... but I do hope that the developer don't take this as a praise as a lot of other games are way ahead of them. All the OG Harvest Moon games has been remastered, it's time to create a better IP for new gamers who probably don't know what is Harvest Moon anymore.
2) Maybe engine limitations from the era?
3) maybe, but if it has same sex marriage: why would you need to breed?
4) It's realistic understandable.
5) Yes, I second this: not only seeds but everything has to be purchased individually (you can add 10 and more, but only per-item).
game isn't bad its just old
It was their 2nd attempt at a fully 3D game of the franchise. I'd argue despite how much some fans like it, very little of AWL carried over into future games, and for good reasons.
Much of the new mechanics were tedious in the original, and the gameplay itself was terrible. Where as say the 1st fully 3D game of the franchise Save the Homeland actually had some pretty good gameplay for what it was, even Fishing was actually fun for example, the STHL remake Hero of Leaf Valley for the PSP improved upon by even making chopping trees fun. To sum it up just watch the animation for cutting grass/fodder in STHL and compare it to the original AWL. STHL just blew it away like a rubber dingy vs a battleship. Issue for STHL though was the game had no festivals, no marriage. Which is why it sadly doesn't get higher on people's list as well, which is understandable. I honestly don't get why they didn't take STHL and make a better game out of it because they had the foundation, but instead we got AWL.
A Wonderful Life felt like a big downgrade though when compared. The way AWL tells it's story doesn't exactly make up for that fundamental flaws. The original Gamecube version was slow as well, so the game would become utterly boring fast. The PS2 Special Edition version fixed some of the pacing issues, but even then, in spite of that the game still felt slow and boring.
It's why despite how much love some people have for AWL I wouldn't even put it on my top 5 best of the franchise list. I've never understood why the game got as much love as it did.
That being said SoS AWL does improve and fix a lot of the issues the original game did have. Gameplay isn't tedious anymore for example. Most of the worst aspects have been improved or flat out removed. Character animations are much smoother, the game doesn't feel like it's in slow motion when doing simple things like watering/tilling, etc etc. Most everything was improved in my opinion.
In some ways I find it more engaging than Stardew or whatever, just because it has some adversity ("tedium" as many like to put it) and what you do feels rewarding through it.
If everything is super easy (don't even have to water your crops in a lot of modern games a sprinklers do it), nothing feels rewarding to do
Take Rune Factory 4 for example: you couldn’t romance the same sex, but you got a lot of cute bromance interactions that made your friendships seem even stronger. Then RF5 came out and nobody is your friend anymore, everyone just wants to get in your pants.
With how poorly Marvelous has handled it, I can’t tell if the move towards inclusion is genuine or a convenient excuse to do less work.
2. That's kind of the point, it's SUPPOSE to be a small community.
3. There are mining and fishing, and 40 days for this slow paced game is just right, if it were 120 in a year it'd drags for too long.
4. Why would that be a joke? It's cheap enough anyway.
5. *Sigh* At this point, you're just looking for another reason to slander or bait or whatever you're trying to do.
