F.E.A.R. 3
F. E. A. R. 2: CD Key Problems?
When I first Bought FEAR 3, it came bundled with FEAR 2...

I have over, & over again asked both STEAM / Valve, & WB Support for a CD Key...
They have over, & over again denied giving me one...

My Game is a CD Copy brand New off the Shelf, not used, & is sitting on my Shelf Collecting Dust...

Problem is, the Booklet says I may not need a CD Key as long as STEAM is not a Requirement, which it is, & there is no CD Key in my Book, & there is none in any form of E-Mail... I think they forgot to give me one with the Game...

But with a Reciept thats Faded, you can't Read it, I got my Pre-Order Code from it, even then I had to Guess on some of the letters...

Point is, they want me to Pay for a Key I should have gotten with my Game...

If anyone has an Extra CD Key for a CD Game, & is willing to give me it, let me know?

I am really interested in Playing the Game, again I am looking for a
Key for a CD Copy of FEAR 2... =D

Thanks in advanced... =D

Oh man, you don't know HOW much I can feel with you.

I got TWO F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin shrink wrapped that I just opened to try to install.
Neither one had the promised product code for steam printed on the back side of the manual.

The first I opened was the normal DVD plastic box edition, and it had a white box cutout printed on the backside of the manual, probably for the prod. code to be printed on (assumingly)...
But, you guessed it, tadaa it was BLANK!
I searched the contents like a madman, turning around the DVD inlay, looking at every page of the manual and even looking at the content of the DVD index (yeah right *lol*); oh and even took out the DVD from the drive, just to make sure (full paranoia mode ON)...

Okay this would'nt help, however I had an ace up my sleeve I thought.
I still had the cardboard box edition, which was also still shrink wrapped and also required steam.
Unpacked it, and saw it contained the same plastic DVD box, also unpacked it and noticed a slightly different manual, as it did not have the white field on the back side.
But ALSO NO product code... *whimper*

So right now I'm stuck with TWO brand new just unpacked FEAR 2 DVD's from WB Games which neither can be registered on my steam account.

BTW. F.E.A.R. 3 had no such problems, all ran smooth.

This is NOT steams fault, it is deff. WB's fault as they slipped through quality management.
But I already read this can take a long time before WB answers mails if they do at all.

I think you also have the "Ger." (USK) edition right? *lol* That might NOT be a coincedence.

To make matters worst, I lost the Product Key for the Collectors Edition of Half-Life 2, because STEAM never worked at all, would never Install, I was never able to get it to install until Skyrim came out, which a Solid Install of STEAM was finally on the CD of one of my Games...

So the fact that Half the Games I own for STEAM have no Product Key, & the fact STEAM all of a sudden decides to Kill it's Self after the Next Update after Skyrim comes out...

I have some really crappy luck here, lOl...

And that is why I love Origin, & hate STEAM so darn much...

& if that ain't bad enough, STEAM Support is utter crap... Origin gives me Free Coupons, & crap all the time, what does STEAM give me? A Missing CD Key, a Broken Program, & a Crappy Supportline? WTF, right... @_@

The Edition of FEAR 3 & FEAR 2 that I got, were just the basic Games, but I got the Hammer for Multi-Player on FEAR 3, which might I add sucks horribly... Both Games are indeed CD Based...

To make matters worst, WB Games never Replied back to any of the Support Tickets I have sent them... I can't get in Touch with them, their Forums were Dead a long time ago, it just sucks, :(

By the way, did I forget to mention...

If you actually Read the Manuel for the FEAR 2 Game... Your CD Key is actually on a
Card that is suppose to be in the Case with the Game, if you never got one, then it's no wander why you can't find the Key, lOl... The Card wasn't inside my Case either, ~_~

But i'm sure glad i'm not alone in this, ~_~

Oh man, that sucks.
But I have to say, this is the first game where this has happed to me.

After typing my ordeal, I saw you live in the U.S., so I have a different edition of FEAR DVDs.
In the manual (both) it is clearly printed that the product code "should" be printed on the back side of it.
Also I have come to like Steam by now, which was a whole different story when HL2 came out, I wanted to boycot it, as for all the reasons which have been told since al those years since then.
But hey, this was Half Life and I love evrything HL and valve, so there was no way around it (piracy might be easy, but it does not support the developers, and in this case I feel they deserve my support).
Anyway, these DVDs seem to have slipped through someones quality control, don't even know if WB games is still responsible for these now low price games, but it sure is not steams fault, as frustrating as it is.

I just wonder if WB would send two steam keys, if they react at all to customer mails?

Perhaps you have to send them a email on a weekly basis untill someone reacts? *lol*

Greetz, Bren
lOl, i've been sending them E-Mails every now & then, & everytime I have been ignored... So if you can get through, happy E-Mailing, lOl... More like Happy Stalking WB Games Support, lOl...
Haha, exactly what I thought.
I was thinking about going into the store and buying a new DVD and opening it in the store.
If there is no produkt code printed on the manual I will go through the whole stack of DVDs that they have there... *lol*

We will see...

Greetz, Bren
lOl... Most likely, i'm just gonna go buy the Expansion Pack for FEAR 2, & just hope that FEAR 2 comes with it... That way, i'm not wasting any Money on another Copy of the same Game, ~_~
little update...

Yesterday I checked the boxed version of F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin, and noticed that the DVDs
had a totally different content setup.
From these I was able to actually install the game even if the box had "steamworks" listed on the back. But actually it had NOTHING to do with steam.
So I do have Fear 2 and can play it, but without steam support/update news etc. (haha yeah like something is going to happen after 4 years).
I can tell steam to add it in my library, but it is marked as a non steam game or mod.
That's not really how I like my games to be...
At least the steam chat function seems to be active during the game.

Also not noted on the box is, after installation, the icon reads that I have the F.E.A.R. Ultimate Shooter Edition.
Not 100% sure that this is right...
I'll start it again and check into this.

Edit/update***
Checked again and it contains the "Reborn" mission pack (forgot to mention
patch version is 1.05).
The real F.E.A.R. Ultimate Shooter Edition is the original Fear 1 with all mission packs also
sold as F.E.A.R. Platinum Edition as far as the wiki page says...
So I wonder why they have this desktop icon. *lol*
