Does it show the FEAR 3 splash screen then just exit back to desktop?
Go to steam/steamapps/common/fear 3
Right click on Fear3.exe, click troubleshoot compatibility, choose try recommended settings
Worked for me, hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue here too, also tried running it in compatability for just about every option none work.

I have a similar problem, the thing is that I installed windows 10 first, a clean install, then I installed the game, at first I could play it with no problems, now I can't play it, steam shows a windows problem saying something like "Failed to start game (unknown error)". Could it be an error on the last update of the steam software? The thing is that these guys from Steam don't give any support, they always expect that us (the users) solve our problems by ourselves opening this "official" forums.

Try going to the game on Steam and go to properties and in the Local Files tab click the link that says "Verify the Integrity of Game Cache."

Nope, no difference. Thanks anyway!

I click on play and the sysop show me the splash screen, after that the game ends. No Fear 3 process running.
I tried all solutions proposed here, but nothing resolved the problem.

OK guys, I could play it again. Don't know to how many of you this will work. The thing is that I bought the game on the Origin platform. Then I moved to steam because I was playing more often my Steam's games, so I was trying to run the game directly through the Steam platform, but that was my mistake. So, I was going to play again some of my games on the Origin platform and I saw the FEAR icon over there and ran it, and it worked as good as before. I hope for some of you this could be helpful. By the way, I had to do nothing else, just run the game on Origin insted of Steam.

splash fear3 logo, then nothing.
no error logs,
tried in every variant of compatbility mode as well as having "run as administrator checked".

the game literaly wont start and wont tell me why...

the verify game cache worked.

It definitely works on Win 10 64 bit as I am playing through now, no compatibility changes required.

Something was changed by Origin or Microsoft. It is working now. :steamhappy:

Hmmm... FEAR 3 seems to be giving me some issues on Win 10. It can run on my Win 7 notebook, (I used Steam's backup option to transfer the files).

So this is ouch.

The error msg was: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect".

I have tried every recommendation on this thread, so far no joy. :steamfacepalm::steamfacepalm:
