Source SDK

Source SDK

source sdk (css) wont launch
"Failed to load the default scheme file. The map views may be missing some visual elements."

"You must navigate to the desired game's common bin folder and run hammer.exe from there.
For example, to run Hammer for Half-Life 2 (includes episodes), run: ...\SteamApps\common\Half-Life 2\bin\hammer.exe"

doing the above helped but a large amount of props are missing and if I load up any other maps its errors everywhere.

anyone have any solutions?

This is what you will see if you attempt to create a new file.

Failed to load the default scheme file. The map views may be missing some visual elements.

Since the SteamPipe update in 2013, the Source SDK has been broken and Valve has yet to fix it. In order to launch Hammer without any issues, you will need to go to a folder where Hammer.exe is located.

For Counter-Strike: Source:

X:/.../Steam/SteamApps/Common/Counter-Strike Source/bin -> Hammer.exe

For Half-Life 2: Deathmatch:

X:/.../Steam/SteamApps/Common/Half-Life 2 Deathmatch/bin -> Hammer.exe

For Team Fortress 2:

X:/.../Steam/SteamApps/Common/Team Fortress 2/bin -> Hammer.exe

NB: Newer Source games, from Left 4 Dead to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, use their own SDK or Authoring Tools. These can be found respectively in the tools tab, in your Steam Library. The concerned games are:

Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Alien Swarm, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Portal 2.

yeah, I know, I can launch it but the problem is the majority of my props are gone.

Verify the intergrity of game files for the game you are mapping for.

didn't seem to work, all I really need is the doors from dust 2 but its not to be seen

The doors on CSS (not CSGO as I read this wrong) are brush work, not models.

Decompile dust2 with BSPSource, and you will find the doors as brushes like speedvoltage said.

are you sure dust2 isn't protected from being decompiled?

No, it's not, nor is any Valve made maps. Some maps might throw warnings when decompiling, but will still load fine and some will error out and won't decompile (it doesn't happen often, though).
