So it appears this is Unreal Engine....
Indie games made in Unreal really have a bad habit of being un-optimised as all hell. I really hope the team is able to get this concept running smoothly, but I have doubts.

Like it looks really really cool, but there have been many UE indie games that just....run like absolute train wrecks.

Maybe consider doing early access and not a full release and work on that going forward?

Sorry, it's just Indie UE, especially ambitious niche titles, 9/10 times struggle with this so much. Please, consider doing tests of some kind with the public as soon as you can, because that will let you optimise it better going forward.

⚔️ Will there be a demo?
Yes, make sure to stay tuned on Kingmaker’s social channels, Discord, or wishlist on Steam for updates.

⚔️ Will there be a closed playtests?
We will likely need to host closed playtests to help us get feedback or test certain features during our development. If you wish to sign up, make sure you join the official Kingmakers Discord server.

There will be tests which is good. Saw your thread speaking about optimization and related so I thought I'd share this.

This is very good and reassuring. Hopefully any optimisation issues that get brought up in said tests are dealt with and not shrugged off.

I think the game is conceptually entertaining so I want it to do well.

Same thoughts here man! Can't wait to test and play this game. The trailer made me very enthusiastic.

I get good FPS testing the game within the unreal editor. We optimize the game every two months. TBH if we hadn't thought a lot about performance, this game wouldn't work at all right now. collisions, animations, pathfinding for thousands of guys. We are *forced* to make the game go vroom just to develop it.

Of course, we will need to work even harder on optimizations as we get closer to launch, but for now I can assure you it doesn't run like garbage.

Thanks WHOLF for the support :)

Sounds great, glad to hear it! I will be following this for sure.

That is true because of the trend of games that have been developed by unreal engine, but we hope this one gets off good
The trailer itself was captured from a standard gaming PC, no tricks. We're super vigilant about performance, both in terms of CPU and GPU.
I think the games you're describing are "coded" in blueprints :)

I'm keen to try a demo too. I find it hard to believe thats real gameplay footage - The area shown was large and densely populated with NPCs. It doesn't seem feasible compared to what weve seen with other games (and my terrible adbentures in unity). Hoping I'm wrong

That trailer was made from basically a playable build. It was like 95% gameplay.

I think it was captured with a 3080, but we have held play tests where players were using steam decks and pretty low spec machines.

We have been working on this tech for ~5 years, so it certainly was a challenge to create.

Yeah not a big fan of unreal engine. Hopefully they know what they are doing. UE engine killed a lot of games especially performance.

Very excited for this such a classic hypothetical realized. Wishlisted!

A lot of UE games are programmed in blueprints. Blueprints are quite slow and have pretty terrible performance.

This game is programmed entirely in c++. We are heavily focused on performance and spend almost half our time optimizing to make sure this game can run on lower spec machines.
