Anyway, this game is pretty unique in terms of gameplay... I think a playthrough on normal is very helpful to get used to the gameplay and to learn how to use the enviroment and to test some skills. Therefore while normal is way easier than hard, it is fun too.
Just play the game in Normal mode until you don't find it that hard anymore.
That's what i do now. To make it even harder, i don't even use the healing spell coz i think it's gonna be just too easy with it. I just killed the optional cyclop yesterday on hard difficulty.
I skilled in meele and got a shield but still I can't hit them without most of the time get hit myself. I thought I'm doing something really wrong. I managed to just run to the next part but that's not the way I wanna play the game. I want to crush those maggots and explore the world!
I can beat Dark Souls (offline) but this was just ridicolous!
The real challenge in demon souls and dark souls start the moment you drop your shield, your range weapons if you don't use range or OP magic. Even with a shield plus dagger, it's not that hard(I know coz i did a run that way)
...
As for Darkmessiah, like the others said, it's not a good idea to go face to face against them, it's better to kick them in spikes or to use objects to make them fall.
I beat DM at hard mode and i had to rely on traps, sneak(even if i wasnt the thief type) and explosive trap only for magic.
Just remember that you're not the dragonborn or what ever, you're nothing more than a human in this game regardless of the lore.
Well, Dark souls have only "normal" difficulty.
As for OP, I suggest you to do your best and beat the game on Hardcore difficulty. I am playing game from beggining now, but when I played it about 2 years ago, I know that stealth build worked pretty fine on all difficulties.
EDIT: Didn't see thread post date, OP already beated the game.
Even if it's been a long time since i created this thread, it doesnt mean we can't discuss about it further more.
I did beat it on hard mode and now, i feel like i can do very hard, but i don't feel like it for 1 reason. Now that i know what to expect, very hard won't be that hard and il tell you why in the next paragraph.
If you stack up healing skills, it won't be hard since you can always be at 100% health before your next fight
Weapons like Ice bow, ice shield(or lighting i think), and an other sword with a super OP life steal so OP that it can outheal your enemies's attacks.
Just note: I did not use one OP skill, weapon, armor/shield and i did not use 1 mana potion neither. Mana potions are too common, you always have 20 because it's way too easy to gind. Other potions and food are fine, scarce enough.
Explanation: and why these weapons can turn the game from very hard to easy mode:
Well first off, the ice is the most powerful effect in the game ever. If you freeze an enemy, you then only have to kick him. The ice will break and he will fall on the ground. Then you spike him on the ground. That's just not what i call a fight and you don't have to sneak, it's free of mana and a 3 shot kill while your enemies don't have the time to react. The cooldown is low as hell too.
Now you might say,''hey, but these OP weapons, you get them later in the game, not that early''. Wrong! in fact, the ice bow, you get it very very early, on the orc stage and it's hardly a secret weapon since it's easy to find. You don't need too much archery skill to wield it as well and if you do spend some skill just to equip it, you will still be able to complete your main build at the end so it's not a waste at all.
Yes, i know, i can just ignore the OP stuff while playing very hard, but trust me, that would be impossible. They made these OP stuff for the very hard mode. Otherwise, i believe it's impossible unless you're one of these perfect speedrunner video makers on youtube.
lol, I killed the optional cyclops on hard by standing in an area where he can't get, and I kept shooting him in the head with my rope arrows, which are infinite. It took a lot of shots, but it killed him eventually, so I cheated to beat him.
