Yeah, I had several crashes as well and can't quit the game normally without it reporting "mm.exe stopped working". I think the game suffers from these issues quite a lot. Bought this on a CD-ROM 6-7 years ago and it made my entire system reboot quite a few times.

I'm running this on win 8.1 and can run it without problems (start it up, I mean), but sometimes it crashes on me during gameplay.

I had almost the same Problem I think, I solved it by doing what someone suggest on another topic (Can't recall exactly the post, sorry).

All I had to do was to go the game's folder, find mm.exe, and activate the compatibity "run as administrator". If you did it well, Windows should ask you to give permission to the game to run as administrator, and it will load normally.

I hope this helps :). (Also W7 x64 here)

The steam version works very well. I did nothing special to start and play it (W7 x64)

I've had no problems and have played it on different Win7 x64 computers. GPU type maybe? I always use Nvidia.

There is no cd version.

The original DVD version requires manual patching with v1.01 and v1.02. After that, the DVD is total awesome (this is equally valid for Windows XP; 7; 8.1, both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions).

If you experience differently, the issue is with your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ PC / laptop or user error. Just ask for help, instead of spreading nonsense.

Ok... So it might have been a DVD instead of a CD-ROM. Still it caused a critical reboot on my system several times. This sums up my (old) experience with the game. I had critical crashes making my entire system to reboot, the game won't shut down normally but fails to close the application. Which means I have to start Task Manager and do a "shutdown process" every time.

The game plays nicely on my win 8.1 OS but the general lack of optimization doesn't really make it a favorite of mine, despite the brilliant stealth and combat system. I love this game. Just wish the team behind it would try and fix these annoyances (that's prolly misspelled, sorry).

I have a similar problem...

First, the game gave out an error about binkw32.dll being in the Windows directory instead of the game's directory. So I put it in the game's folder.

After that, trying to run the game does absolutely nothing. I just see the hourglass next to my cursor for a short moment, and then nothing. When I check in the Task Manager, it doesn't even seem to be listed among the programs running. I tried the "run as administrator" option, but it didn't do anything.

With a missing dll file you should consider doing a file verification (right click game, choose settings, choose local files, verify file cache). Not too sure what it's called. Mine is in danish but it's the one at the bottom under local files. Try that. Find the game's executable and set it to run with admin rights. If none of this helps then try the link in my first post on top.

Good Luck! Hope you get it fixed.

I think I figured out what the problem was... apparently, the game found issue in the fact that I copied the binkw32.dll from somewhere else, rather than from the game's bin folder.

Well the link I gave you lead me to another thread in there. I suggest you give that a look if you keep getting this problem. Read the whole thread as they discuss solutions throughout. Some aren't viable but they finally figure it out.

What I meant was, replacing the binkw32.dll file with the one from the bin folder fixed the problem. :)
