Stuttering fix
1. Right click Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player in your Steam library, and click 'Properties'
2. Click 'Set Launch Options' and enter:

+fps_max 60

3. Click OK, then launch the game
4. Go into graphics options and enable vysnc.

This completely fixed all stuttering issues for me. For reference, my launch options are:

-novid -heapsize 1048576 +fps_max 60

Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm from the present and I wish I would've known this in the past.

Thank you very much!!!

I'll try it out however I have a question. What kind of stuttering does it fix? I seem to get a consitent 60fps but the only thing that bugs me is that it appears as though the animations themselves stutter as if they were recorded at a lower frame rate. Does this improve that at all? Thanks.

Glad some people found this useful!

I'm not sure if it affects everyone but on both machines I've tried this on, the framerate has been at 60fps but really jerky as if it was lower. Basically it felt really bad to play. Something to do with the frame rate limit at 60 seemed to fix it for me, but I don't think it'll affect the weapon animations at all I'm afraid.

thanks this fixed it....

The game always said it was at 60 FPS for me but it looked incredibly choppy.

Wat does "heapsize"do?

Great to see folks sharing solutions to get these older games running smoothly on newer systems :steamhappy:

The heapsize argument changes how much of your RAM is available to a program. 1048576 is 8GB of RAM.

Fixed, thanks man. I'm re-starting playthrough.

You'll need to also use Large Address Aware on the game exe to allow it to recognise (and use!) more than 2gb RAM - grab it here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/
