Unlimited Edition mod - Adds Collector's weapons, New Game Plus, and alternate NPC voices
Hey all.

This is a project I've been working on for the Steam version of Dark Messiah.

Unlimited Edition is a mod intended to restore features previously restricted to Limited Edition. It also includes a few more features which are listed below:
  • Adds the Collector's weapons from Limited Edition.
  • Adds a New Game Plus mode accessible from the credits map.
  • Adds previously unused voices to NPCs throughout the game.
  • Fixes Leanna's missing sound when telling her to stop following the player.
  • Fixes potions/food from stacking past the 20 item limit.
  • Several minor level fixes.
New Game Plus lets you replay the game from the start with all your skills and equipment, including your holy weapons or special ability or both (if you make strategic choices in-game).

New in 1.2:
  • Adds New Game Plus reward: extra inventory. Beat the game for access to a second inventory grid. Bind a key to invswap (e.g. "bind b invswap") to activate.
  • Adds a difficulty selection area to credits map.
  • Adds a new difficulty, Endurance, selectable from credits map. Enemies have double their Hardcore health and deal damage similar to Hard. Intended for players that find New Game Plus too easy with end-game equipment.
  • Fixes missing ballista explosion sounds.

Version 1.3 adds a subtle decal to the first map to visually confirm the mod is installed correctly. It also swaps positions of the holy sword and staff to prevent an issue when equipping shields.

Version 1.4 adds support for two add-ons: Freeze Damage and New Zoom. See below for download links.

This mod doesn't require Limited Edition to work because the assets for the Collector's weapons are prepackaged with all versions of the game. Feel free to share any feedback and/or issues you experience here.

    Will conflict with mods that change the spell config.

    Prevents NPCs' health from scaling on harder difficulties but retains their damage scaling. In other words, NPCs always have the same health as they do on Normal difficulty.
    Will conflict with mods that change the gameplay config.

  • Regen Binds[www.dropbox.com]
    Adds key bindings to options menu for toggling mana and adrenaline regeneration.
    Will conflict with mods that change the game text or keyboard menu config.

  • Free Inventory Swap[www.dropbox.com]
    Enables Unlimited Edition's inventory swapping without needing to start New Game Plus. Also adds a "Swap Inventory" key binding to the keyboard menu.
    Requires Unlimited Edition. Will conflict with mods that change the autoexec config, game text, or keyboard menu config.

  • Freeze Damage[www.dropbox.com]
    Makes the Freeze spell deal damage when cast on enemies.
    Requires Unlimited Edition. Will conflict with mods that change the autoexec config.

  • New Zoom[www.dropbox.com]
    Allows the player to use the Zoom key at all times.
    Requires Unlimited Edition. Will conflict with mods that change the autoexec config.

  • Missing Sound Patch[www.dropbox.com]
    A patch that fixes a few missing sounds and suppresses console warnings for intentionally absent audio. Fixed sounds: Lich-Leanna impale, alternate Necroguard idle, and alternate Necromancer hail. Some sounds are only heard with Unlimited Edition.

  • Mini-mod Compatibility Patch[www.dropbox.com]
    Patch to allow Regen Binds, Free Inventory Swap, Freeze Damage, and New Zoom to cooperate. Mods must be downloaded separately.

The huge stone you mentioned will knock a cyclopes to its knees in one hit. Because its so overpowered I made it so huge objects require up to 55 mana to grab. This can be changed by editing the value of "ManaCost_Huge_Object" in spells.txt.

I have to ask why are you going through all this for this old game?
Dark Messiah is a one-of-a-kind melee combat masterpiece. Its what keeps me coming back to it. I love the game and would be thrilled to see more content made for it. I was so excited to see the single player SDK released after all those years. It's awesome to play around with the game files and explore what else it can offer. Obviously, the enthusiasm and shared love of the game from people like you makes all the effort worth it.

Awesome! I agree the cost should be high. but i am so confused on installing it. the mm_root goes in the DMMMSP folder and in the DMMMSP/mm folder too? and do the other folders go in the root folder or inside like this mm\mm_root\cfg\media\SAVE\supertelekinesis\
which would make it subfolders. or

all just go int he mm/mm_root folder? and do i still need a mm_root in my main folder for SP where the new telek folder went? sorry man lol

Well that makes sense, i dont think illl ever stop playing this game. and it is a one of a kind. Ahead of its time when it released too. I wish i could do what you do. the best i can do is edit the config file and add key binds for, lvl skip, adrenaline, skill points, mana cost, run speed and duration, spawn guys, weapons....lol but you! yeah you deserve my money lmao.

So i have 1 more question, this one might be harder. When you turn on Sanctuary its almost blinding becasue of the shield ora color... can this be made more clear so fighting in dark areas isnt as annoying?

There's only one mm_root folder and it goes in the DMMMSP folder. It goes in the same folder that the unlimitededition folder is in.

The other folders -- media, cfg, SAVE -- get copied from the mm folder into mm_root. They shouldn't be nested. If you open mm_root you should see all three folders.

This should be possible. I'll try to make something for this.

Thank you. I'm very appreciative of your support and it has taken me by surprise. Editing configs is 90% of modding Dark Messiah. You can absolutely do it. A tool like GCFScape is all that's needed to get started.

I got it thanx man, yeah this is cool. i was looking at the file you made for it and i see, hugh NPC set to impossible.. lol is it possible to pick up a cyclops?

I didn't try it but it should work. Of course you'll need full adrenaline to pickup a living NPC. Some NPCs are specfically configured to not be picked up by Telekinesis but it doesn't look like Cyclopes are.

Adjusting "ManaCost_Huge_NPC" in spells.txt does allow you to grab their corpses and ragdoll. If you type "ent_fire !picker fallinragdoll 1" into the console while looking at a Cyclopes it will briefly ragdoll. There's no "stand up" animations so they just sort of rotate back onto their feet.

Also, I've settled on something to improve Sanctuary's visuals. I've put together two comparison gifs here[imgur.com]. Its a fine line between seeing through Sanctuary in the dark and still being able to see Sanctuary in the bright. I've repackaged the mini-mod with the changes here[www.dropbox.com].

Lol yeah i was messing with that too, its fine. the hugh objects are awesome. i found you can grab anything that is or becomes a prop for a set time. like a wall falls you can just grab it and whatever. but only for the time duration until fallen then it goes back to a solid not a prop and deselects it. but its funny.

So you know i can go on all day with this stuff right? Ok here is one that has to be harder lol. I will gladly pay for this.

One thing I wanted to do was to change the dark vision so that it doesn't have that blue tint. I couldn't figure out how to do it though. I assumed it was a shader or something like that that is applied when you use it so I tried to look at those in the game files. Didn't get anywhere.

Coincidentally there exists an alternate inventory space in the game that can work for this. The game uses it to store your things when you lose your backpack and as an internal space for an item that gives you your special ability. It comes with a hotbar and a full backpack space.

I've added a Swap Inventory key bind under Options > Keyboard. It's very unstable since it was never intended to be accessible by the player. I've found a few cases where the game will outright crash when you swap:
  • Dragging an item in your inventory.
  • On a horse or in boat.
  • During a scripted scene (e.g. waking up in the sewers on Chapter 4) doesn't crash but can soft-lock the game.
Other issues include:
  • Armor and rings are unequipped when the inventory is swapped.
  • The active spell cannot be selected again until something else is equipped.
  • When the player has their special ability they can see a "behind-the-scenes" item in the second inventory.
  • Keys can only be used if they're in the active inventory.

If you want to move an item from one inventory to the other you'll have to drop it, swap your inventory, and then pick the item up again. This means that quest items cannot be swapped once they've been picked up, so you'll have to be mindful of that. Also, because some levels have been changed it might not work in your save games until you reach a new chapter.

I took a look for you and found the wizard_eye.raw file in materials/correction is a 128x256 24-bit RGB graphic for the Dark Vision spell. I changed its hue to green and launched the game: https://i.imgur.com/kcZO9A3.jpg

Edit: I just learned that this is a standard Source engine feature and is described here. You can use the in-game tool to create a colour correction material by typing "colorcorrectionui" into the console. This is my attempt at removing the blue tint: https://i.imgur.com/2toRKAG.jpg

It works just fine and yes i see how having the wrong bar out or swapping at the wrong time crashes the game. thats not that bad. but in the middle of battle my armor removing is kinda rough. Like maybe the last 4 slots in the backpack are the 4 slots armor sword shield ring and whatever are in those will auto equip when swapped. can you make it auto double click the slots on swap or something lol

I can't access the player's backpack but the belt can be used. I've updated the mini-mod so the last three slots (7, 8, and 9) are automatically activated when you swap inventories. I chose three slots instead of four because these slots are more valuable than backpack spaces and loadouts without a shield (like a mage or archer) would have a slot that they couldn't put anything in (see below). If you'd still prefer four slots let me know.

The mod is ignorant about the type of items in each slot. It simply tries to use whatever is in them. This means that potions and scrolls will be consumed, books will be read, etc. Also, since items can't be swapped between inventories automatically you'll still need a second ring and armour. (This may be desirable since it makes the extra equipment you come across useful.) Due to the changes you should clear and then reset the Swap Inventory key.

Well if i really can choose then i would say 6 and 7 i only need ring and armor to equip and i use 8 and 9 alot never 6 7. but how do i make the magic icons is there a command for it. so i can add to both bars

wait a minute.... if im using both backpacks.... what happens when i lose my items. does the game make a 3rd backpack or is 1 gonna get dupped and i lose stuff?
