Is it playable?

The constant crashes (specially at the gates first chapter) make it impossible to play for me.

There are quite a lot of guides, also use 4gb patcher on your mm.exe

its a 32bit game capped at 2gb of ram usage you can increase that to 4gb or lower your resolution/graphics settings, with the 4gb ram cap I can play the game with no crashes at 2k full settings and a very rare crash generally on ending a level in 4k so I just play in 4k and save near the ends of levels the game warns you when you are close to a load screen. look for the guides its a very simple fix you download a small program let it know where you exe for dark messah is and it takes 1 second does it's thing and you can play a much more stable game

The 4gb patch no longer helps. The game has died on the most recent versions of Windows 11 from what I can tell. All I get and others is white screens until it crashes. No compatibility settings have worked so far.

I just purchased this game and was unable to load it on the latest version of Windows 11. Bummed but requested a refund.

If this game really doesnt work on Windows 11 then I truly am never swapping over. I have a tradition to play this game every summer and by god I am not going to stop.

It won't work on any 64-bit version of Windows unless you patch it.

Same experience. I've been able to get it to load the videos at the start, but crashes with a ntdll.dll error after the intro bink movie.

I've heard that some people had to do simple patching to get the game working, and for some people the issue seems to be almost impossible to solve. Anyway, for those who experience crashes, check out other steam threads for all possible solutions.

check your paging file is not controlled by windows/system, if you have 64bit, 16GB RAM< your paging file should minimum be 8192/MB 8GB
Set a max of 16,
for 32GB you can make sure it starts at 16, and max 22? free disk space on respective disk is also required,
sysdm.cpl in start menu
