Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player

I'm kinda shocked that no one has made anything like this since it's creation
we have hundreds of games like doom and quake but almost none that are similar to this. It's kinda odd

Arkane's games usually have more complicated combat with magic anyway. And from what people usually see on steam version of the game, source is just too wacky for a complicated game.

Not really what I mean. I'm thinking more along the line of a melee focused game with hack n slash gameplay in a singleplayer setting. I checked all over the shop for a melee focused game with a similar combat flow and there was nothing. This doesn't seem focused on that.

Those are mainly stealth games. I'm more focused on the melee part of the combat as that's what drew me to dark messiah.

Arx Fatalis is more combat orienated with magic, not stealth, while dishonored can be beaten going loud (and it's technically a better experience). But despite DM's junk, it still has the best melee combat out there.

Arx is arguably just as old (and made by the same dev). Also, dishonored is annoying to play loud as it punishes you for doing so with a bad ending (and made by the same dev). It's weird how no other developers have tried to mimic it's gameplay. only a handful of games while doom, Quake, and even fear get games inspired by them often. You'd think that there'd be more melee focused first person games that are single player outside of like...5 or 6-ish games relatively similar to it.

While Arx Fatalis is old, just like Dark Messiah, no other game has the experience it provides. While Dishonored does not punish you for going loud, if anything, it just makes the game feel darker. Altrough you can kill about 20 - 50 people per level and your chaos level can still be low.
Dark messiah combat is not just source engine or satysfying melee hits, it is also level design, enemies, magic and other stuff that makes the game so special. That's why it's hard to make a game like DM. Arkane's at it's finest.

Elderborn is great modern variant of this game crossed with Dark Souls and 2016 doom.

I enjoy both of these games and still play. They are more geared for mp/co-op, the maps are just mission based and there isnt much rpg aspects to them but you can just use bots for sp and there is a TON of melee.

Not what I mean either. All this is telling me is that we REALLY need a DM like game cause there really isn't a modern equivalent to it.

Actually, if you really like this game, why don't you play it again from time to time? That's how i got my 800+ hours anyway. Yes, before you ask, there are tons of mechanics and fun stuff to do. Also, there is a nice arena mode, different rebalancing mods etc.

Because I've kinda "wrung out" my enjoyment. I really wanna see a modernized version of it.

Well, if that's the case, then the only games with Dark Messiah feelings are Arx Fatalis and Dishonored, if you haven't played them of cource.
But hey, since it's the age of "indie immersive-sims kind of games" there might be someone who can make simular game, with combat and locations to explore.
