Is there a bug regarding attack animations on windows 7
Is this game's attack choreography supposed to be such utter crap? Enemies will hit you without moving a muscle, they're attack you while they're down on the ground, or just starting to get up. They'll hit you for 40 - 50 damage on higher difficulties while you're behind them wailing on them and they don't even move while doing it. The game looks like it's working as intended, there are animations, they're just unrepresentative of the attack the enemy is doing, and half the time when an enemy hits me there's no animation to go with it. I didn't notice the problem when playing on normal, but now every encounter on hard or hardcore is just cheesing the enemy because if I get even slightly close an enemy they just start attacking me over and over without any visual explanation as to how or why.

A good example is something that happened to me just minutes prior to posting, and what caused me to stop and write this. I was doing a second playthrough on hard, and I had just arrived at the orc island. While I was fighting one orc, every attempt to kick the orc or shield bash them resulted in literally no movement from them, just blood coming out. So I instead retreat and heal a bit. Then I go to fight the orc again. I do a jump-strike, which does knock him over and makes him fall from the roof he was on, so I jump down after him, I have 30 - 40 health or so. No other orcs in sight. I go to impale this orc on the ground, then it starts to get up and in a fraction of a second, while the orc is getting up it hits me and instantly kills me.

Is this a compatability issue or is this game just borderline unplayable ♥♥♥♥?

It's not normal at all, no clue where the issue resides though. Would help if you could provide a recording of it.

Yeah, I'll try to make one. Give me a moment.

https://youtu.be/tRmDcS7oduU Here, this is a less egregious example, and specifically only the killing blow is the seemingly broken animation. The orc simply walks towards me and I die.

Also, looking back I am proud of that shield bash into the spikes.

Never experienced this in multiple playthroughs on various PC specs.

I've resolved this issue by running the game in XP compatability mode. Animations seem to always play properly now.

I've never actually noticed this before now, because I think I've played every game as a mainly ranged/magic user, but it seemed really weird how I was getting melted in my Hard mode melee run. It looks like enemies can hit you when they start their animation, and then hit you again when the animation is supposed to connect. Against the giant spider, the one second wind up hits my shield immediately, and then when it finally bites. If block the windup, walk backwards out of the attack, and then run forward when her bite wiffs, I can still get hit when it's in the recovery part of the animation.

Comparability modes don't seem to change this issue, and I haven't seen a mod or many threads mentioning this sort of problem.

Heya there Eisiger! I can't find any other reports internally of this issue with attack animations, so this is really unusual to hear.

Just to make sure you're using compatibility mode in the way we'd recommend, please see the compatibility mode guide[ubi.li], which we'd recommend switching to Windows XP mode.

Please also go through the steps in the troubleshooting guide[ubi.li]. In particular from the guide, please make sure you are running the game with administrator rights, you've verified the game files, you've got your Windows install fully updated, and you've (at least temporarily, for testing) deactivated all background programs.

Lastly, I see that other players have found success in fixing issues with the steps in this community guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=307579490

Let me know if any of that solves the issue!
