How to fix random crashing on modern systems.

On my 64 bit Windows 10 system the game ran great except for one thing: At random moments the game would crash.

There was no real reason I could find for these crashes, but they all had one common thread, they happened after playing for a while and they never happened in the same place twice.

I'm not sure what inspired me to try it, but I patched mm.exe with Large Address Aware[www.techpowerup.com], and it hasn't crashed since.

So there you go, if you have random unexplained crashes every now and again, give LAA a shot. I may just fix your problem.

Didn't work for me. But I see that the game crashes after atacking an enemy, that's the only thing that connect these crashes.

Wow... I can't believe you have to download and use this app to make DMofM&M work but that's what it takes. Christ - this should be prebuilt into the game as a hotfix. It works.

Added a pair of additional stability fixes to my guide, they seem to be quite effective:

ADDITIONAL PATCH TO ADDRESS >2GB RAM

It should reduce loading crashes.
With an hex-editor you can patch the game (mm.exe) to be able to use >2GB:

Offset: byte to be modified -> modified byte
00000DD6: 0F -> 2F

INCREASE DATA CACHE

This seems to be a benign setting improving stability against sudden crashes.
On modern systems with 4GB+ RAM and 3GB+ VRAM, set as Steam game launch option:

+datacachesize "128"


Never had a single crash anymore at loadings or while playing.

This game crashes also on quit (take a look at Reliability Monitor in Windows) and may still crash with >2GB patch only.

AHHH! it was the lack of laa and lack of command line that caused mine. i'm also on Win 10 x64 and had the same problem. used this plus the app and that bloody annhilated the crashes on load! =)
