Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player

Game is "running" but won't start
As titled, the game is supposedly running in Steam but no window pops up, as though I didn't start the game at all. Has anyone else experienced this? Running Windows 10 btw

Ok so the game eventually started but its very prone to crashing, typically when something happens in a level or is trying to load.

try compatibility mode with windows xp. also try verifying game cache just in case.
(if you dont know how to do either just google them)

not me but i do get crashes. I found though by typing this " -heapsize 1572864 +fps_max 60 " into the launcher options without the " that the game runs alot better and crashes less.

Not sure if anyone will be still interested in this. I was trying this to get this to work today. Trying from exactly the same machine it worked on 10 years ago, unchanged, and now won't run!

Loads of posts on here about it. Finally solved the same issue by accident. I saw an article on changing the resolution in steam beforehand, and saw that there was a way to get steam to autconfigure the game. I put -autoconfig in the launch parameters and it worked fine.

Info was from this page https://www.blindnero.com/forums/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2#p9

For automatic config:

Either:
Steam: in Library right-click on ''Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Singleplayer'' => Properties
Retail version: right-click on the shortcut on desktop => Properties
In ''General'' tab, click button ''Set Launch Options...''
In the text box type in: -autoconfig
Click OK
launch the game.

Hope this works for people trying to launch it from now on!

good evening guys. I urgently need your help today. I've tried all the suggested solutions I found on various sites, but unfortunately none of them worked for me. So if you have an idea how I could solve it I would be very grateful.

I have already tried the following: 4GB patch. copying the "bin" to the "main" folder. Launch options i tried: -applaunch 2100 -dxlevel 90. -autoconfig.

im playing on a laptop with 32 gb ram and 6 gb Nvidea 3060 all of it on windows 11.

Hey acciopistol6, sorry to see you're having trouble launching the game.

Have you tried launching it in compatibility mode to see if it helps? I'd also advise you try all the steps from {LINK REMOVED}, as it doesn't seem you've tried those before.

I have the same problem. For me, the game does start if I manually launch mm.exe, but does not when I launch the game through steam.

Also, because of the different problem I had to download cracked version and move it into steam's folder and make steam launch cracked exe instead of the original one. So when steam launches original exe it crashes with an error window (as you'd expect), but when I make steam launch cracked exe it just as the licensed version just shows that the game is "launched".

Well, if this'll help you, just launch "mm.exe" in the game's folder. You won't have steam overlay and screenshots, and it won't count playtime, but at least you'd be able to play the game

I made a very similar comment and steam deleted it. lol

Currently working perfect. My resume:
Write in Steam -> right click on the game -> propierties -> launching parameters:
-NOVID

Also navigate to your game install root and right click the .exe
Right click it -> Compatibility tab -> Execute as admin

DON'T EXECUTE THE EXE (or you will get white screens and missing files at the end)
Return to Steam and execute the game (a windowd will ask you if you give permissions and all the admin thing etc)

Also it's a good idea apply the "large address aware" to mm.exe, to handle more huge modding things etc

I had given up by the time I left this comment. Now, after more than a year, I wanted to dedicate myself to it again, but in vain. I can't get this game to work. I have 36 hours in the game, 6-7 of which are gameplay the rest is me blankly staring in the screen or waiting for something to happen. I'll write my computer statistics again at the end of this question. if any of you can help me. Just a quick heads up. I've already tried ALL "possible methods" but without success. I hope someone can help me this time because Ubisoft doesn't take me too seriously.
