If I remember right, in the towns, using 4 instead of normal 3 items to get the next higher level gives you (more) coins.
As for coins, always make somethign with 4 instead of 3 if you can.
When I suggested this, it was immediately shot down as it's faster to just play the game, finish the map, collect whatever you earned there and start over. It's a valid point since making 4 of grass only nets you 2 more coins and requires you to plan much more in order to get the higher tier 4 of a kind bonusses. Basically, it isn't very time efficient to make 4 of a kinds all the time.
Quick people, start responding or else this person is going to leave a negative review.
I already had given it a negative review. But it's a good negative review as I explained why.
come on, this is a game like tic tac toe, the coin is just for extra fun.
Since I havent give the game a review either, I will go ahead to write a positive one to balance out yours then.
No bears no rocks cluttering up the place. Easy to combo grass into houses.
Also I agree with the post above. The coins are just an added bonus the real game isn't the castle town.

Look at the time I made that post and the time I made this edit. Pretty decent time/money ratio to be honest.

There we go. Another 15 minutes worth of gameplay later.
If all you want is coins then Peaceful Valley is the place to go.
There's actually a trick to that. What happens is that the game swaps out one of the game modes once every 24 hours (so peaceful valley for lots of bears for example), EXCEPT when there is a game already in progress in that mode.
So if you want to be able to play peaceful valley all the time, keep a session in it active before you close the game. That way, it won't be swapped out and you can keep playing it whenever you want.
Then why do I end up being returned to my town?
I always leave a game of peaceful valley open before I quit the entire game. That ensures that I can leave this game for days or weeks and still return an play peaceful valley.
It doesn't do that for me. I do leave Peaceful Valley. And return to town. After I exit and return. But when I return to Peaceful Valley. It starts a new one.
The truest method for grinding out valuables is to play several maps at once. Use the Peaceful Valley as your main map, and only build on that one when you have things in your Inventory to build with, so that all your moves are 100% predictable. This takes a really long time, though, but in the end you'll start really racking up points with triple castles and whatnot.
