I started playing the game since its early closed beta stages. However, I stopped playing soon after the closed beta was finished and did not come back until the months of July and August. I also believe this is one of the best Free-to-Play games I have ever laid hands on. The fair business models along with the high production value ensure that I continue to play this game in my "free time." Some of my favorite features of the game include gun customization, armor sets, weapon types, point driven in-game purchases. Furthermore, I love that Agents can choose a server without having to wait for matchmaking system to pair them with “equally” skilled level Agents. This allows Players to simply filter their preferred game mode/map and jump straight into the fight.
I am also aware of the cons concerning this quick match joining system. More specifically, Agents that occasionally join matches without level restrictions and must battle against veterans. In terms of the game’s business model, many individuals complain about custom weapons or configurations that are obviously more powerful than the default equipment. I personally did not change from the default weapons until level 7 and I stayed with a high KDR throughout those levels. From level 7 on I used the SMG receiver in order to maintain my 2.5+ KDR without ever changing its default components. I still utilize the default armor pieces at my current level of 25.
Pay-to-win aspects of this game include flame/ burning ammo and early weapon unlocks. I would argue that even with these negative Pay-to-win elements, the game is still extremely fun to play. After playing 60+ hours, I have never seen more than two or three Agents that utilize some of those previously mentioned advantages. Some of the best Agents I have played with understand the positions of spawns, the best angles for engagements, reaction time with a specific weapon and so on. I believe it’s important to understand your most successful play style instead of worrying about what weapon is the “BEST”.
In terms of game optimization, I can run the game without very good computer specifications on medium graphic settings with the expected 60 frames per second. I have never really had the dreadful memory leak issue that seems to plague many Steam users.
I hope these paragraphs give individuals insight into some of the pros and cons of the Blacklight Retribution game.
