We're excited to finally be releasing Chains of Acquisition. We hope you all will enjoy playing the full game, and we want to extend our sincere thanks (in the form of a launch sale ;)) for joining us on this journey and giving us a shot!

It's been quite a journey getting here and we are proud of how far we've come as such a small team. We have so many great ideas for the future, and we are excited to see what the community at large has in mind too!

In the meantime though, we want to get some of the quality-of-life updates out of the way to make the base game more enjoyable. Here's a small list of some of the more immediate updates we are already working on:

• The rest of the tutorial chapters, these are our first priority right now
  
• More optimizations, especially to load times, focused on enabling larger maps and even more complexity
  
• Fleshing out the smaller branches of the tech tree, we have 3-4 more levels immediately in the works, not including plans for a much larger tech tree expansion in the future
  
• Adding the ability to mod sounds and music

Hello all!

Over the past week we've been conducting some stress testing of the game to see how large things can get.
While Chains of Acquisition is intended for small to medium sized maps, large maps can be fun when playing with lots of friends even if it pushes the balance a bit. We prefer 20x20 or 25x25 maps, but we have been seeing how big we can get, and have been using 100x100 as a reasonable test for a large map size.
Chains, like many simulation/strategy games, is a very CPU-heavy game, so our focus between 0.4.1 and 0.4.2 has been optimizing the CPU load, particularly when loading the map. Our primary optimizations in this update were to the collisions on the map grid and the nodes, reducing them to as few meshes as possible. We tested on a 100x100 map, totaling 10000 tiles with an additional 2000 nodes. The following results include FPS, CPU usage, RAM usage, and Approximate load times on the same map:
Surprisingly we didn't see much of an improvement in framerate at this size, but we did see a decent decrease in CPU load and loading times. In any case, these optimizations will allow for significantly larger maps in the future, though we have not been able to load a 1000x1000 map due to object limits. (though that is something we would like to improve) We do believe for map sizes under 100x100, this will keep the game more accessible to lower-end hardware, even if it doesn't result in much of a boost in high-end setups.

Additionally with this update comes a brush size tool for the Map Editor, just in time for larger maps to be viable. Alongside this, we have updated the modding UI for a smoother experience enabling, sorting, and uploading mods.

And finally, the Steam Workshop page is live! So once the game is available everyone will be able to start modding immediately. We think modding is the lifeblood of games like ours, and are very much looking forward to what everyone comes up with.
Just for fun, we have also uploaded the map we used to stress test for this update, and we plan to add a few more maps to our official unofficial big maps mod.

Chapter 3 of the tutorial is here, bringing an explanation of storage nodes, how to set up demands in your storage and retail nodes, and how to connect all of your nodes using routes.

We believe this tutorial chapter is an important step in smoothing out the learning curve in Chains of Acquisition. Using these first three tutorials, players will have everything they need to create basic supply chains and actually begin playing the game. Notably, this chapter also demonstrates how resources are pulled through the chain to warehouses and retail nodes, rather than pushed from production nodes.
Although not all mechanics are covered, many of the remaining mechanics are similar to the explanations in these tutorials and we believe this will help a large majority of players figure the rest of the game out from here while we continue to work on the rest of the tutorial chapters.

The next chapter, Chapter 4, will cover Retail Nodes, Logistics, and Selling goods. While Chapter 3 contains enough information to figure out retail nodes, we definitely think they need their own chapter. Stay tuned for that and more as we prepare for launch on the 26th!

Once again we are presenting a new chapter of the tutorial. This time we have completed Chapter 2, covering Production Nodes and construction.

Production Nodes are one of the key components of your supply chain in the game, so this was definitely an important piece of the tutorial to introduce. We hope this will significantly help ease the learning curve of understanding how resources are produced and why nodes don't simply produce their recipes until they are full.

Next update we will introduce Chapter 3, which will cover Warehouse Nodes, Demand, and Routes. We currently consider these first three chapters the most important parts, because using them players can begin setting up their own supply chains far more easily. Chapter 3 will also round out our explanation of a pull system in supply chains, which we believe is one of the largest hurdles to understanding supply chains in Chains of Acquisition.
