Witcher 2 not saving (Solved!!!)
I just finished the Blood Curse quest and wanted to go back to my last save to redo someting and nothing had been saved. I've searched the web and here to find out why, and I've found extremely detailed instructions, but man oh man are they ever complicated. Isn't there an easier way to fix this problem? I'm so bummed.

And to make matters worse, I can't delete saves in the game itself. Yikes!

Steam/userdata/userid(a set of numbers)/20920/remote

The folder gets crammed full and bad things start to happen, so just delete all but the ones u want to save. There is a picture file that goes with each save.

Thank you. I have looked all over for that folder and can't find it. I don't have Steam Cloud on; could that be why I can't find it? And if I don't have it, then what do I do?

Okay, I found it, but I don't have /20920/remote in there. I have a bunch of saves in my Witcher 2 folder that loaded itself on my PC when I uploaded the game. Should I delete some of those?

this guide might help:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=294892663

I suggest you just cut and paste them somewhere else just as a backup...and yah if you don't have cloud on, your games will save to:

C:\Users\your user name\Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves

The same thing happened to me recently. I had upgraded to Windows 10, which screwed up the permissions for the documents folder. You need to go into your Witcher 2 folder in your documents folder and add permissions for "everyone" so the game can write to the saved games folder. I did that and it worked for me. C:\Users\your user name\Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves

Thank you so so much! I thought it might be 10 causing the problems and I even tried giving the save files permission, but not the folder itself! Whoo hoo!

Please help. How do I set permissions for "everyone" so the game can write to the saved games folder in Windows 10?

turn off steam cloud for all games or just this one.

I've been fighting with this problem for hours and finally found a solution, this was the first search result so here we go. There appears to be a save game limit at around 100 saved games. I tried many things such as adding "everyone", and setting folders that looked like read-only to not-read-only, disabling windows anti-virus, nothing worked. I was able to delete a previously saved game and every time I did that I was able to save a new one.

So the answer (for me) was to delete the games through the game menu, not just inside the computer folder. I can only delete 1 at a time before the game crashes and takes the steam client with it, but there you go. Delete an old game and you can save 1 more new one.

I have Steam Cloud turned on, and for some reason I can see the number of saved games increasing inside the local save folder but they don't show up in the game UI, but I'm not complaining at least I can keep playing now.

This is the dumbest solution but it surprisingly worked for me, means I can finally progress again after not being able to save for ages. Cheers!

could anyone help me i deleted all saves ther isn't this saves in folder but game still not saving

if you use steam cloud, save files are in folder
...\Steam/userdata/yoursteamuserid/20920/remote

if you do not use steam cloud, save files are in folder
Documents\witcher2\gamesaves

check both places. you might still have too many saves.

check antivirus log. a new definition file might be blocking the game.

you said you deleted all saves. so the game was saving and now does not. what changed?
windows update? installed a new app/program on your pc?

My gamesaves folder does not save whatever i do it does not save, what then?

windows comes with default security settings. neither steam nor the game installer nor the game make any changes nor bypass whatever antivirus, security settings, folder permissions, running programs you have on your system. up to YOU to manage all that for this game and any other game/app you install.

game launcher needs to create folder Documents\witcher 2
and after game runs Documents\witcher 2\gamesaves

check antivirus log? might be blocking game/game launcher.

check windows security/controlled folder access.
if on add exceptions for game launcher/game.

maybe the game IS saving. running Windows One Drive? One Drive moves the ini/preference /save files to the one drive folder
turn OFF one drive. uninstall it if not needed.

or if you need one drive, should be exclusion/exception option.
exclude the games Documents folder or tell one drive to leave a local copy of the files
details in the one drive user manual

mods? mods cause all kinds of issues.
ever have mods? uninstalling mods does NOT delete any files created/modified by mods
