If not, you should be able to find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows
I'm using a wireless controller with the charger cable attached... When I install the software and I look it up in the devices and hardware folder, it comes up as UNSPECIFIED and labeled "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller via Play & Charge Kit."
I did a test connection with a PS3 controller and found that it comes up under DEVICES instead, I'm thinking the charger kit is what is messing with it...
Thoughts?
Also, what do you mean by "charger cable"? Is this for charging the batteries in the wireless controller? If that's the case the cable might only work for charging and not for transmitting data, not quite sure about that...
I might be wrong about this but as far as I remember the charge cable wont work for using a wireless controller on a PC. What you will need is a wireless reciever there available from amazon.
Nothing is as simple as insert the disc and play.
Lol i think i tinker more with graphics settings driver compatabiliy and patching more than actual gaming.
Anyways a wired xbox 360 controller will work (im using one). I heard they used to do wireless ones but stopped making them for some reason.
As far as I can tell, the two wired controllers both work fine on a PC, just plug either one in. (Plug and play). Personally, I'm using an wire Xbox 360 contorller for the XBOX 360, and it works fine on the PC.
The wireless controller WON'T work with the play and charge cable. If you must use a XBOX360 wireless controller on a PC, then you MUST get the wireless receiver, as others mentioned. It's about $20 or less.
The reason it won't work with the play and charge cable is that the cable DOESN'T send the joystick commands, the cable only charges the controller (i.e. it's one way from the charger to the controller).
I did with wireless it was woeful why ? because the battery ran out in 1 day...I play all day long...wireless sucks big time...because of the batteries...
u need to buy the official pc wireless reciever (amazon or ebay) play and charge kit wont work. or u can just buy the games for windows xbox360 pc wired controller
With the one caveat of wired play, you can switch between the Windows branded and 360 branded at will.
Solution: I'm using a borrowed WIRED Xbox 360 controller instead of the wireless one, I did find a cheap wireless USB reciever for PC and it's on my shopping list.
Thanks to everyone! Much appreciated
WIRED Xbox controllers work just fine on a PC. I've complted the game once (on Easy mode, as I usually suck at games liek this, but love superheroics and such), and I've played the whole way through with my wired Xbox controller.
WIRELESS xbox controllers require you to also own a specific "wireless Xbox controller receiver for PC" device, which plugs into the USB port. You _have_ to have one of those receivers, because the cord of a play-n-charge kit DOES NOT CARRY DATA, only power for the wireless controller's battery.
...
I wonder if the next-gen controllers will be Bluetooth devices? That'd be hella handy, if they did ...
This post is SPOT ON! Get the wireless dongle or plug a wired directly in.
