The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Can't set resolution higher than 1366x768
So ever since I upgraded my computer to a new Core i5/GTX670 build, The Witcher refused to run at all saying my computer didn't meet the minimum requirements, until I used the -dontforceminreqs option. Now the game runs, but I can't change the resolution higher than 1366x768, when I should be able to run it at 1920x1200. Given my specs, it's pretty ridiculous that the game thinks my computer isn't good enough.

I've seen some indications that it's because of the Lucid Virtu thing that's built into my motherboard, but I have that disabled and don't use it at all.

Hm, dumb question, did you plug your screen in the graphic card instead of the motherboard?

I have the same GPU and TW doesn't give me any #### about my comp not meeting the requirements. I run it in 1920x1080.

Yes, my monitor is definitely plugged into the graphics card.

I assume you installed and updated the drivers too? Last ones are 310.70.

That Lucid Virtu thing you mentioned apparently enables to choose between the HD chipset and the GPU. I guess it's set on using the chipset, even if you disabled it. You should probably check how to make your GPU primary in that thing instead of disabling it entirely.

Try adding The Witcher to your 3D settings in the NVidia control panel too.

I have a simlar computer and the exact same problem with Lucid Virtu. Have you found a way around it by any chance?
Shifter Jan 10, 2013 @ 4:50pm
I have same GPU - GTX670 with the newest driver. I'm sure it's not Lucid Virtu's problem because I've disabled it.

I guess it's driver's problem, hope nvida fix it or I have to run with my old GTX460
FFM Jan 11, 2013 @ 1:39am
Yeah, I was thinking it could still be some problem with the motherboard being configured to support Virtu, but It could just aswell be a compatibility issue with the GTX 670. Either way, it doesnt look like there is anything that can be done on the user side of things to fix it.

Oh well, I guess I'll either suck it up and play it looking terrible, or just deal with wasting a few bucks buying it.

I have a GTX 670 and no problem whatsoever.

I'm running 2 GTX 760s and an 8 core processor and can't go above 1400 x 900. Trying to find the .ini file that controls the graphics settings so that I could potentially change it there. Anyone know the exact location and name?
donotcare Mar 8, 2014 @ 5:48pm
I got the resolution to go to 1920 x 1080 by doing this. Start menu > search for regedit and open > then expand HKEY_CURRENT USER > Software > CD Projekt RED > Witcher > Settings. Inside Settings will be VideoModeHeight and VideoModeWidth towards the bottom. Set these to the desired resolution and you're set.

[GOTR] OldGregMangina: tried your fix, but the resolution gets re-written to 800x600 on game launch (even if regedit is still open - refresh view in regedit, and back to low res, with the possibility of changing in game as far as 1366)... I'm running 2x gtx560ti in Sli with a 260 for PhysX and run everything else at 5040x1050 (3D Surround). Anybody got an .ini fix as mentioned before? It's listed as "native" widescreen support on wsgf, and I've seen screenshots there that are eyefinity or Nvid surround... am I missing something?

Does other games run fine at your desired resolution? Are you running dual monitors? Check in your Nvidia Control Panel to make sure your monitor(s) are set up properly.
jJonesTemp ICBM8s Jun 21, 2014 @ 12:27pm
Yeah- 200+ games all running 3 screen surround 3d... recently re-built the PC and went to intel i-7 4820-k (unlocked) overclocked to 4.5ghz with a rampage black edition mobo & 32gigs of 2400mhz ram, so definitely not a PC issue... I did read it could be an Nvidia driver issue- one guy rolled back his driver to 3.8 or something, and it went away- they were hinting on the developers' forum it might also be an issue of game thinking there was on-board video on the cpu, since i was getting the "min req fail" as well. Anyway- I'll just play witcher2 first, and hope a new driver update fixes it ;-)

SOLUTION:
This is what worked for me, running on a GTX 660 and Win 64-bit. You want to get the game running without the -dontforceminreqs option.

1. Run dxdiag
2. On the Display tab, look for DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration. These should both be set to Enabled.
3. If not, you'll need to run regedit. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DirectDraw
4. Change EmulationOnly from 1 to 0.

Opening the game *without* -dontforceminreqs you should be able to change resolution / texture etc to whatever you like.
If all else fails and you can only run with -dontforceminreqs, there's a mod that'll allow high texture detail apparently:

Had my hopes up, but no joy yet... thanks for the textures tip, at the bare minimum- that'll work! Just always drives me nuts when I waited forever to build my PC that some lame coder has to take away all I had to build it for (3d-surround)... that said i couldn't see "emulation" anywhere and have no clue what that might be- included the first spill of DxD just in case something obv is glaring out i can't see:

I don't know anything about setting up 3D surround, but it does look like your DirectDraw is disabled, as seems to be common to Windows 7 64-bit.
The solution I found was based on a suggestion on the developer forum here:
http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/10883-Minimum-system-requirement-issues/page64

It didn't appear in my registry, but perhaps try the first instruction:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ Direct3D\Drivers
change the SoftwareOnly from 1 to 0
