Cutscene Issues
I recently bought The Witcher during one of the previous sales, and have finally found the time to play through it. After the opening cutscene (the one with the striga), the game finishes it's prologue and a loading screen to Kaer Morhen displays. After it loads a bit, the loading screen fades to black, but then displays again. As it's displaying, I can hear what I believe to be a cutscene in the background (I confirmed my suspisions; watched a let's play of the first few minutes of the game, and at this point there should be a cutscene of Geralt running through the rain). Ambient noises, voices... finally the loading screen dissapeares and I find myself in a fortress. I can actually play the game; I was required to pick up a sword and defend the stronghold from some people attacking it. I get a little further along, and another cutscene pops up, but it freezes on the first frame of the cutscene as the audio continues through to the end. After which, I am free to continue moving around to my next objective. It was at this point I decided to try re-installing the game, because I acutally want to watch those cutscenes. After it finished re-installing, I launched the game again and... the same thing happens.

What's wrong? How can I go about fixing it?

I appreciate any and all help in advance.

Same here, I'm very dissapointed - game is very unstable. It randomly hangs while switching locations. Also some cutscenes are just black screens with dialogs. Sometimes during cutscenes background is not displayed correctly (actors are visible but nothing more). I don't know what exactly is going on, but depth of field filters makes people faces looks like covered with transparent blocks/waffles. Guys, this port simply sucks as hell - you should be ashamed of it. And WINE version? Seriously? I mean... seriously?

Do both of you play on anything other than 16:9 aspect ratio (especially konkoi)?

I did some deeper research for the cutscene problem I mentioned, and there's actually a pretty easy fix:

You have to change the lighting settings to low. I don't know why exactly this works, but my cutscenes are running how they're supposed to now.

thank you for this - it saved the game for me. I didn't even realize there were supposed to be cutscenes until I watched the intro on youtube.

You should be able to go into the settings from the main menu; it should be under video, or graphics, or the like.
YA'LL. 2019 here and same issue. You guys saved me a lot of heartache with the lighting fix. THANK YOU. (also, the lighting bar is under the Advanced tab for those looking.)

I'm quite late. But HEAR THIS, POOR SOULS: IF YOU ARE FACING THIS ISSUE ON AN ULTRAWIDE DISPLAY,

change your resolution to a 16:9 ratio. No need to thank me. I personally think it looks better this way, the tradeoff is width in favour of much better lighting.
