the solution i posted is simply working . if you already tried the first solution mentioned with the 12 steps then you probably made some changes and it will require you to delete the game and download it all over again, iam 100 % sure my solution will fix this issue and alow you to play .
I think I remember seeing that method in another thread. Worked for some but not everyone.
Well at least it was a possibility.
Just to be fair, I gave it a try. No luck.
I'll post here if/when things make progress from there.
From what I just read there has been lots of problems with The Witcher on Steam particularly with Mavericks. I ran into this very recently also and decided to try my GOG.com copy of the game instead and it works just fine.
Fortunately, anyone who owns the Witcher from Steam or elsewhere can get a free backup copy of the game, including the Mac version from GOG.com here:
http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup
I would recommend you download and try this one which I expect will work for you since I just did that and it works for me here. This is the DRM-free version of the game by the way and does not use Steam at all. You install from a .dmg file you download at the link above after providing your serial code which you can access within the Steam client and good to go.
I am now able to fire up and play The Witcher without problems so far at least on a mid-2011 27" iMac i5, 12 GIGs RAM, Radeon 6970m running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1. So I hope this works well for you guys also who want to give it a shot. It's a big download yes but it's a lot less painful than all the screwing around, trial and error, etc. I've been reading about in this forum tonight in this and another thread about the same problems.
Thank you greatly. I'll check it out later today. Hopefully this will be a good interim fix until a patch comes out (if one does).
Seems to work with this one. Supposedly the exact same version of the game. Good PR for gog though. They fixed a problem from a competitor's sales as well.
Though to note, when it runs you may get a message to allow it's version of wineskin or the like. Also the first time opening it seems to be HEAVILY ram intensive. But that cleared up after that. most likely some kind of major setting up during the first run.
Don't have the time for a major run through of it today. I'll try it out tomorrow or tuesday to make sure it's a lasting one (I doubt it.....just being cautious here).
