Black screen with sound?
I'm sure there have been others with this problem, and I've searched around a bit but only find solutions for The Witcher 2. My problem is that the game will start, turn the screen black (as it is supposed to when it's loading), the cursor will appear for (at most) 3 seconds, then the screen turns completely black again and I can hear the intro Atari and other videos before the main menu. The game isn't crashing. The problem is that I can hear everything, but I can't see a damned thing to start the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I also have a Win7 64-bit laptop. I ended up having to edit the video settings through the registry. My only current solution is to start and play the game in windowed mode. So far I have no problems.

If you don't know how to do it, simply press the start gem on the Windows taskbar, type in "regedit" (without the quotations, of course) into the search bar at the bottom and start up the registry editor.

Once it's open, go to HKEY_Current_User > Software > cd projekt red > witcher > settings and a list of the in-game settings should appear to the right. From there, find where it says "Fullscreen" and change the setting from 1 to 0. After that, simply exit and start up the game. It worked fine for me, so hopefully this solution works for you as well.

Playing the game in windowed mode is better than not being able to play the game at all.

Bump!

I just bought Witcher 2 and had the same problem. Running in windowed mode helped me also. Might be interesting for those with same problems!

Go to the Steam folder > SteamApps > Common > The Witcher Enhanced Edition (or whatever version is experiencing the issue) > System

Right-Click on the witcher.exe file and choose Properties.

Click the Compatability tab.

Select Run this program in compatibility mode for:

I am running Windows 8.1 x64 and chose to use compat mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3)

That fixed the issue immediately.

Hope this helps!

Hello dude! It is happened because of your client! I had the same issue black screen with sound and I only updated my game to 1.5 and you can download it from here!
http://en.cdprojektred.com/download/patch-1-5/
Then you only need to install it, but dont forget
DO NOT USE CRACK, ONLY INSTALL IT, YOUR CRACK IS FOR VERSION 1.0 THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T SEE ANYTHING!!! JUST INSTALL PATCH AND ENTER THE GAME!

Hope you enjoy ;)

Fixed it instantly, even without having to get out of the game. Thanks!

I had the same problem. changing to window mode did the trick. turns out the resolution the game was set at was incompatible with my video card, once in window mode I was able to change the game's resolution to match and I was able to play full screen.
