Alchemy not working.

I've read that some cant select formulea from the left bar. I have that problem, but I also can't do alchemy in any other way, simply because it doesn't let me add any base, I have the brewing and herbalism hero skills. When I enter the alchemy menu every item and formula is simply grayed out. If anyone has a possible solution I'd love to hear it.

Yup, the problem was that I was trying to use normal alcohol when only the strongest of alcohols will work, but I do not remember the game explaining that at all.
