Worth Playing the first two games before W3?

I picked up Witcher 3 for $30. However previously, I never had any interest in the series, so I watched a recap of the first 2 games on youtube. However after watching some gameplay vids of the first game, I actually wanna try out the first 2 games. But I kinda spoiled the story by watching those recaps earlier. Is it still worth it to go through them?

For story-line purposes, yes. You should play the first 2 games before the 3rd one, as they go in Chronological order.

But it is a matter of opinion, my opinion is Yes, but others might be no. Do you bruh, do you.

YES, like Mass Effect u should in my opinion.
And for a nice little Bonus u can take ur save from 1 to Part 2 ,and after 2 u can take ur save to W3......and u will be surprised what happens ;)

I had the same thought as you OP. I wanted to play 3 but never had any interest in 1 & 2. I picked up both 1 & 2 during the sale and now im nearly finished playing 1. It is definitely a series you should play from 1 - 3 just so you get immersed into the story, gameplay and characters. From playing 1, I'm starting to get attached to certain characters and want to know more and more about the story. I mean you can probably just play 3 and watch the prologue that tells you some backstory but in my opinion, it wont be the same as playing through the previous two stories and going through that emotional cinematic journey. Like Lord Abaddon said from the post above, writing out your own story through the choices you make and taking those choices into all three games is something to look forward to and excites me personally.

For Witcher 1 if you like it's story, then it will help get all the way through it, though the dated textures and mediocre combat, and going back and forth in chapter 1 may stop you. For Witcher 2 it's a lot better than 1 all I'm saying.

I had almost the same doubt. Since they were on sale, I bought The Witcher 1 and 2 at once.

I had recently played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. So, it was a little difficult to get used to the simpler graphics, limited movement and the click-combat. I am only at the beginning of the game and know nothing about the story.

I've been told that The Witcher 2 is far better than the original. So, maybe it would be OK if you skip the first.

I'm currently playing through the first Witcher, next is Witcher 2, then to purchase and play Witcher 3. I for one like to play the entire series for games like this. It's like a movie, not going to start watching at the 3rd one. I feel I would be blindly playing through a brand new game only being able to really enjoy combat/graphics and being completely clueless as to anything involving the story. I'll admit the combat and graphics are not the best in the first Witcher, but the story is very rich.

But like stated above, do you, bruh. We all play games how we like.

I first got W2 when released on Linux, Loved it so much that I stopted in the middle of the story and get W1 and never had any regrets. I got w3 at preorder in December but now I decided to play again from 1, 2 and then move to 3.

as the rest says play the first games it really worth it, because of the history and because you can take your save from the first one to the second ,and after that I think you can take ur save to W3 so that really gives you the sensation that you build your own path

I think the digitial comic basically tells you what happened in Witcher 1.

I'm attempting to play through 1, I will buy the sequel once I finish it. I, too am struggling to ignore the rotten textures (only comparing to The Witcher 3, which I love the look of) and the first chapter is so tedious. I'll keep pushing through it.

1 is skippable (it didn't age well) if you read up on what happened. There's some tie-ins to the other two but not many. 2nd one i'd suggest playing through, it sets up everything for the third one.
