Is Witcher EE bug-free?
Or do I have to download some unofficial patch from Nexus the way I have to for the Elder Scrolls games?

if you ever find a game totally bug free send me the name i want to purchase it just so i can play a game once where i dont have to back up to earlier chapters or go to google to find out how to break into code and fix something just to continue or even finish the game.

From my experience no you don't. The only mod I use is one designed to rework the combat a bit which also adds wound effects which plays a role in not just effects but also to help your combat tactics by giving you a visual representation of the damage you are dealing. I forget what its called but its the only mod I use and its been a great experience. The only thing I can think of is that I may have had a couple of CTDs but its really rare.

Its a great game. However, its old school gaming at its best which also means it can be very hard. It took me some time to get used to the inelegant combat system but once I learned how it works, its enjoyable. You need to save often and be prepared to meet situations that you can't tackle every time. There quite a bit of grinding especially at first.

No game is ever bug-free, no matter how many patches the developers put out. The Witcher though, is one of those polished (hehe) games where bugs rarely occur. In my 3 playthroughs, I've only experienced one bug and it's just a graphical one where Geralt's face becomes a Ghostface look-alike.

no true bugs but there are still plenty of unfinished stories in it from what i have read. but all in all i love it so far

There are two mods major mods from the same author called Flash: Flash mod and Full Combat Rebalance (FCR).

I have been using the last one and even on the the "casual" and easy mode (the lowest and next lowest for how difficult/hard game mechanism are supposed to be) with no change for spawn of mobs. (There are more into FCR then simply a "rebalance" as you have to make some choices during install.)

White Wolf mod change the visual UI and some other visual content.

The second mods which might change how game play works in general is a speed mod to make Geralt run faster, but it also changes companion, NPCs and probably how fast mobs are moving.

In any case I feel that Witcher 1 EE can be very uneven experience when it is supposed to be at its most easiest level and sometime it is possible to kill everything and suddenly be killed a flash of a second without notice.

I believe this is happening because of how little information there is on screen for effects like stun, bleed or pain on yourself and as far as I can tell you can not see how much HP your enemies have. Do swap between isometric view and OTS during fights (pause game) to get better view and move camera with mouse on the edge of view. Isometric view are also better for walking/running between places as yo don't have to press or hold down a key to move (you can either click on ground or do as me: make a macro and bind it to your gaming mouse or keyboard [holding down control + click] and then use this on plants/corpses to move from point to point.




Back to bugs: There are some bugs in this game, but OP, you need to remember that both video card drivers and video card, DirectX and Windows isn't the same as when this game first was on developers table for bug fixes.

Running this game on my i5 4670K show that only one core out four have 100% load, so that should be enough to tell you that this game have been designed when single core processors where more common which is some years ago. As a 32 bit app it also have the limitation with RAM allocation, so don't use too many mods at the same time to avoid filling up RAM even if you have more then enough RAM for today's games.

Save often as you might want to go back to an earlier save if you forgot to finish some quest that you could do later (very important for Chapter 1 as when you gone far enough into main story line you can not sell anything, store anything in that Inn etc for the next chapter.) Move your saves to another folder after some time as a too large save folder could also add to problems.
