No salamander badges- am I screwed?

I don't have any salamander badges left to progress the quest with the merchant, I read online that salamander goons spawn in the temple quarter past midnight, but I stood outside vivaldi's workshup for a whole night cycle and NOTHING spawned, just the occasional dwarf roaming around.

they spawn randomly in the temple area at night... go to the nonhuman district after midnight.

you need to walk around not stand in one place.

Just to be clear: I should be walking between the north gate and Vivaldi's house, right?

Although I have played the game many times, I have not yet been able to work out what schedule the Salamandra follow. Geralt often ran into them on the night of the prisoner visit in the hospital, when he (previously) needed Fisstech to bribe Jethro.

Have you already accepted and carried out Carmen's quest? You can also get brooches here. The same applies if Geralt is curious enough to follow Vincent at night to find out what he is doing with the Salamandra (near the inn).

As HIZ already said: Waiting is not helpful. Changing the map is more likely to help trigger encounters; sometimes it is enough to enter a building and then leave it again.

However, sometimes nothing happens for nights at a time..

I just had to reload a save, I don't know why they just aren't spawning, but I just had to cut my losses and lose a bit of progress. Thank you, though.
