Can you play on M1 mac?

Hi, I bought this game a while ago, and I want to play it on the M1 Mac, which I have upgraded to. When I start the game, it says, "Error: failed to initialize." Is this game supported in anyway? Steam thinks it's supported for Mac in general, and usually this means games work for the M1, since it runs steam with rosetta. Thanks!

There are so many comments about this already, the game dosen’t work on m1 mac.

You can try Windows emulators or parrarels 17 /18 to try make it work , but no idea if it works since I have no mac.

Yeah. I can try using QEMU, but I was just wondering if I could avoid it because steam says it's mac compatible, and usually this means it will run on the m1, since steam runs with rosetta anyway. Sometimes you have to enable this manually for each game, but the default is that it usually isn't compiled for ARM, so the emulator starts automatically.

I have the same problem. I understand that the game is old, but steam offers it for mac os. It is surprising that some people in the discussion begin to turn to insults rather than help.

I have the same problem. I bought the first and second parts for my Mac Pro 14, M1. When I press "play", I get the message: "Error: initialization failed". The game is said to be available for Mac, but that's not the case. How do I contact support from Steam, with the appropriate people who manage it?

Game is 32 bit. It was never compiled as 64 bit. Therefore, it no longer works on Mac.

To play the game, you need to install Windows 11 ARM.

TLDR. The game is more than 20 years old. You can run it in an emulator or with wine easily, even if you have RISC183.8888 or whatever architecture.

Mac port has been updated for 64 bit/Apple Silicon. To work around the load screen crash you'll eventually experience, just Right/CMD click the Witcher app and check "Open with Rosetta". Loading times become abysmal, performance takes a hit, and frame rates can take a moment to stabilize, but I've had no lab/load screen crashes since. :)

i dont have mac but I think you need to manually update to rosetta 2 like this article says:

Looks it does not work on M3 Macs. I get a black screen but audio.

Witcher 2 is working on my M3 (kind of)
All NPC's I encountered so far have a graphics glitch and audio dialog does not work, strangely other audio sound do work
