Berengar is designed to die in this situation (suicidal behavior due to bad conscience) - rather a burden than support. Geralt has to protect him from himself if he wants to save Berengar.
Devil's puffball helps a lot. Using this bomb it's possible to kill Azar in half a minute - and save Berengar.
