Witcher 1: The Love Dilemma. Can you ditch both of them?

Hey, so I am playing Witcher once again and last time I chose Shani, thinking this would be best for the kid. I went through to the end of it and found myself married to a rather ♥♥♥♥♥y and somewhat boring lady - yaiks!
So this time I am choosing Triss, I didn't even sleep with Shani when I had the chance.
I am at the point where I bought the ring, went to Triss's home... and I don't want to give the ring to her. There is no particular quest attached to this marriage thing so i could actually finish the Chapter and be done with it, but I am not sure if the storyline will work that way (cos when I didn't sleep with Shani, at the beginning of the next Chapter she still behaved as her ♥♥♥♥♥y self and after that gave me a kiss, like we were lovers or something).
So has anyone chickened out and didn't propose to either of them?
I mean I even answered "No" when asked if I want to have a family in the Inn...

Don't really care i'm playing a game where i want to make potions, chop up monsters, level up and raise up my strength abilities lol. Don't care about some minor which-girl scenerio a certain quest wants, unless there is a good reward for picking one or the other.

I would say Triss is canon because she will be by your side in Witcher 2.

I myself also picked Triss, but this is your story you can do whatever you want, screw the canon.
