How can I use the mutagen ?

I've got an elixir-the eye of chimera,but I dont understant what i can do with it. Even if i drink the elixir, the ability ,which needs the mutagen, still cant be studied. Help me pls

well this is old, but maybe for others who might want to know.

certain abilities can only be gained by drinking a mutagen potion, which is made from rare ingredients, usually by fighting a boss-type monster, etc like a werewolf.

You fight the monster, get their ingredient (werewolf fur, etc) and make the potion. When you drink it you gain the mutagen skill noted. You don't have to study it of course in your skill tree its gained by drinking the potion you make.
