cant get passed unforgiven

for some reason the magic barrier between you and the proffesor in the salamandra base will not come down. i run into the barrier , he tells you to defeat his army. i killed the main group but the game seems to spawn endless salamandra. ive been fighting them for over an hour (between crashes). ive used different saves too. anyone else run into this?

Did you even bother to summon reinforcements? What's to complain about infinite free XP?

Before Geralt runs to Azar Javed and the professor, he has to activate another portal to allow the reinforcements to come through. Did you do that?

If so: Do you use cheats, mods, the savegame editor etc.?

i just want to advance in the story. i have witcher 2 purchased and ready to play.
i don't use cheats. I got the crystal that gives you a buff to a sign but i didn't see any other portal. i looked around pretty thoroughly but then again the game has been crashing a lot, where's the other portal?
