The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Can launch game through Adventure Editor, can't launch normally
Been trying to Google around for something, even found GOG's website listing various fixes, but I can't find anything for this.

Basically, the game crashes upon starting and dumps a dump file in AppData/Local/CrashDumps. This is when trying to start the game normally.

However, launching the editor is fine, and then even launching the game through the editor works. But directly launching the witcher.exe just ends up crashing.

I'm running Win10 Version 20H2, so latest Win10 version I believe.

I've added witcher.exe to malware protection exception as well to see if that would help. Tried compatibility mode for Windows Vista, Vista SP2, Windows 7, doesn't work. Tried disabling fullscreen optimizations, doesn't work. Disabled Windows Game Mode, doesn't work. Tried patching it with the 4GB patch, doesn't work.

If all else fails, I'll just play it through the editor, but it's annoying I can't just launch the game normally.

Anyone else have similar issues? Thanks for da help!

EDIT: Actually, I can't even play it through the editor it seems. I try to start a new game, but then it just kicks me back to the main menu. Doesn't crash, just a kick back to the main menu. Sad :(

Did you used to be able to play fine before?

Yup, on this very same computer. Worked fine for previous builds of Win10

I'm not rolling back an OS to a previous version with security flaws just to play a game lol.

Anyone have any possible fixes whilst running into a similar issue?

All versions of w10 have security flaws, they're just not discovered yet

I'm having the same problem. It has something to do with permissions due to steam being located in a different drive. Can't find a fix though.

Ohhhhh ♥♥♥♥, that makes sense. My Steam folder isn't on my C:, so. I'll play around with the permissions and see what happens.

I guess if worse comes to worse, I'll just move it to my C: and see if that works as well. Will update with results.

Thank you kindly for the tip, sir :)

Hi guys, I have exactly the same problem. I don't know how to fix this issue. I've tryed everything. There's one thing I realized, this problem starts just after installing a new graphic card (RX 5500 XT)

Go to properties set compatibility to windows 7 , don't disable optimizations. Do this to the binary on the system folder

Yup that's what I tried, but it didn't work :(. Still haven't gotten the time to try changing out permissions, ala CoganTheDestroyer, but when I do I'll report my results back here!

I found a patch in a previous discussion that added a dll that fixed the issue. Sadly I forget what it's called. If you need help finding it I can try.

https://fdossena.com/?p=wined3d/index.frag This is what I downloaded. Use 7-zip or another file unzipper and put the files into steamapps\common\The Witcher Enhanced Edition\System. That should fix it.
