The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Good game but super annoying
Just venting. I tried to play Witcher 3 but couldnt handle not understanding any references to the past. I like the game, but there are some things that drive me insane about this game.

no fast travel. This wouldnt bug me so much if a couple other things weren't also piling onto that annoyance. The amount they make you go talk to one person at one side of the town, then another person at the other side of town drives me nuts. Not to mention you have to visit people at certain times. So on top of walking over to see a character, you also have to go find a fireplace to meditate at, because for some reason you can't just pass time.

ALSO if a character isnt at their place for some reason (i'm looking at you Triss) you cant just wait by the fire, so you have to run to the other side of town.

Is it just me or do they purposely have someone you need to meet during the day tell you to meet someone else at night, and vice versa,

Overall i know its an old game so most of its flaws are probably just due to age. Also that you can't jump over small fences. Also that they put fences in the middle of a field for no other reason than to make it take longer to run around it for the 100th time.

/end rant

Yes, those are inconveniences but are easily fixed with mods in Nexus.

I'm sorry, but I disagree (except for the jump fences part). The game seems to mimic things that would happen in real life. In fact I'm surprised it isn't even more draconic in this regard. The NPC's move around during the day, then go to their homes at night. It would've been actually cooler if you couldn't just break into anyone's home at any hour of the day and night and start chatting with them even when they went to bed. I've only advanced to Chapter II so far, but I like how the scums of society can be found at the inn during the night and not during the day, or that the guests are at the inn during the day and not during the night. These things makes you to do some planning ahead while looking over the quests journal. Which quests should I do now when it's daytime, and which should I do tonight? Who should I visit? In which order?

Of course, you can meditate for 23 hours at a time if you so do wish, to advance a particular quest, but I try to sleep as little as possible and do quests depending on what time of day it is. I really like this aspect of the game.

BTW, since I'm only in Chapter II, I really really hope the game doesn't turn out to be really worse later on. If so, I'll come back later to this thread to apologize.

It gets better after Vizima, I promise.

Chapter 2 is definitely the most annoying as far as the back and forth goes. I like the way they move as well, mostly just getting frustrated near the end of chapter 2. I'm on the last chapter now... I keep getting endless black screens after long cinematic/dialog. Which is annoying as I'm very ready to play (the probably superior) Witcher 2.

A side note... this game has very odd Auto save. Sometimes it autosaves like 5 times in half an hour... then other times it wont save after parts that definitely seem to warrant an autosave

Overall i really like the game. Just some things seem very weird design wise. There is a major boss battle where he just constantly knocks me down, i managed to beat him on the first try... but it really felt like a "did you level up enough" check... as it never really let me put together any combos... I won because i managed to take a ton of damage and survive.

oh one more thing... they end conversations too soon. I'm constantly booted out of dialog so i have to manually talk to them again. not a big deal at all... but over time it builds up... just let me ask all the questions in one go!

ALSO the armor mission is marked as a main mission... it tells me to go see kalkstein... so i assume hes in Vizima... nope mission just gets removed... hope that doesn't transfer to witcher 2

Did you perhaps complete the "detective"-quest before the mission was removed? If during the investigations you at some point start suspecting Kalksteen and question him without having more clues, he will be disappointed and angry, and NEVER work with you again. As in, no sidequest and no other goodies from Kalksteen anymore. All quests given by Kalksteen also directly fail.

I still think Witcher 1 is the best in the series.

I couldn't stand Vizima. I'd like to think I'm a pretty patient person but christ was the back and forth just way too much. I've been in Vizima for like 5 hours and it was just down right tedious.

Nope I actually did accuse him. Then loaded an old save.... I was doing what I usually do and choose every dialog option... I didn't know I'd be forced into it.

There was another mission that wanted me to get an eleven scroll... So that was probably what I missed. Just weird that the armor mission was telling me to see kalkstein. Not a big deal so far Witcher 2 is way easier... So having that armor would make it less of a challenge.

chapter 2 drags on. its good dont get me wrong... just really was wishing for a fast travel option by the end of it.

I know what you're saying, and cant argue with you, but given the direction of modern AAA games I honesly love some of this older stuff and I'm putting fewer and fewer new games on my to-play list, its mostly older stuff which is sad, and a separate topic.

Take stalker for example (came out 2007, same year as W1), huge open world and no fast travel, but thats okay . It's like they're telling you "If you want to get from A to B, WALK MOTHERF***ER!!"" I love it, I really do.
Drevin Dec 30, 2019 @ 5:55am
Try drinking with Thaler, realize he doesn't want to talk to you afterwards since he's drunk too, take 2 minutes just to get to the damn door, not realize that if you return to his house he might let you meditate there, and stumble all the way to the inn fully drunk.

Took me 5-10 min to finally get to the inn, and by that time I managed to sober up anyway.
