Made a guide a few days back. Newbies will be confused about this game's combat system during their first few battles so I'm sharing this here:

Another one is: Max out Igni.

Kills every single thing.

Maxing Aard level 1 for knockdown has been a massive time(life) saver during my chapter 1 game play. Such a convenience murdering them on their backs.

You both are right. :TheBureauEagle:

Aard in the early game is VERY useful. I also poured a truckload of points into Igni in the middle and and endgame phases too. Immolated every mob I went up against. :happyalien:

Also invest in anti-CC (stun, knockback, etc) skills and potions. You never know which encounter will prove to be a tough nut to crack because you get stunned/feared/knockbacked to death.

Aard was the only way i was able to beat the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Beast in the early game. It is by far the hardest boss in the game due to you being so damn weak. Especially if you play FCR in Hard.

He just 'painlocks' you and kills you.

Yeah, I remember the Beast being the most BS boss in the game. If I recall, it even sometimes starts the fight off with the screen fading up from a cutscene where you can't move until it's done fading, but the Beast can, and it starts close enough to you that it can start hitting you before you can even move. I think that was a problem even in the EE.

Bumping as it's on sale and I'm sure a lot of people will create "combat?" threads again. :happyalien: :golem: :happyalien:

You're welcome!

About your question Jonasan, Witcher 1 was CD Projekt Red's first game and so has, understandably, wonky combat mechanics. I wouldn't put myself in a grueling position to go throug the game at a difficulty level higher than Normal. If you want to challenge yourself, do so in Witcher 2 and 3. Not just this one. As you can see in my guide, combat is not that exactly an enjoyable affair IMHO.

Play this for the story. In that aspect, Witcher 1---like all games in the series---delivers in spades. :2016trophy:

I'm on the hardest difficulty - never played witcher games... it's fine. You just get more connected with the combat system each time you try and health and stuff is very plentiful.

I'd be very concerned about the first boss battle though. Even at Normal, the whole thing was a tough nut to crack. :zombiemutant::AlienTarget::zombiemutant:
