What do i do with the pc dvd game for windows disk
I've been wanting to play this game since 2007 when i bought the disk. my old pc however was too weak. now I've ran across the game still in the box and it keeps saying to insert the dvd to launch the game. I've tried every disk it comes with. do i need to re buy the game from steam to play it?

yeah , you'd probably be installing a more recent version of the game too.

so if you're not missing any disc and that the play disc is not damaged then it's possible the disc version is using a DRM that doesn't work on your current windows version.

edit : yeah the game been using a DRM until version 1.4 or 1.5 , so unless there are still website that give those patch I'd suggest getting the game on steam or gog.

If you own a legal version of the game then you will find a product key. Insert it here:

https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

:/ why am i surprised
This code doesn't look like one of ours. Please check that you entered the code correctly.

Some characters, like 0 & O, or 1, I & l, can look similar in print.

depent on the game but a lot's of physical game disc do still work properly under windows 10 or can be patched to work but you'll have to search a bit on google if one game doesn't work right away.

As for skyrim there might be a way to get the game working again without having the buy the newer edition.
I've looked on google and found this https://en.cdprojektred.com/download/patch-1-5/ ... maybe you could have a look , download the files , scan them with an anti-virus if you want then and install them on your copy of the game.

edit 2: it's the official website of the devlopers so yeah It's safe

thanks for looking, i get over whelmed too easy to try to figure it out thats why ive had this game over 10 years and never played it to start with. i got it to open on my old pc once but it kept crashing back when it was still new so i chalked it up to my pc being too weak. my current pc is ryzen 5 3600, evga rtx 2070s ftw3. so i know my new pc can run it easy
If the game tell you that your computer doesn't meet the system requirments you can create a command line or batch file with this parameter in it -dontForceMinReqs

This is just plain wrong. I have a lot of disk games I still play by installing them.

This. Also install the texture fix mod for -dontForceMinReqs or you will only have the lowest possible textures for the environment ingame.

If your boxed edition is the enhanced edition then all you need do is install the 1.5 patch that others have posted the link to. Then go to http://www.tagesprotection.com/main.htm?page=minimum.htm and click the 5.5 toward the bottom and follow the prompts to uninstall the Tages drivers. Then try the game. Do note however that any other games you have installed that require Tages drivers will probably not work after.

FYI I've never been able to get the KOTOR games to run properly on win 8.1 and newer OS. They drop constantly. Steam or Disc versions. I wanted my kids to play through them since I've turned them into star wars junkies.
