There are no really important choices in TW1 which can be transferred to TW2. So feel free to follow your own thoughts.
You don't need a guide if you use Geralt's diary as often as necessary (Ingame: Press "J" -> Quests. There are several filters and the possibility for a questmarker. Use the journal for gameplay tips too (-> Tutorial). Guides often results in unnecessary problems if used schematically: In the wrong place in the wrong time.
Nevertheless three important hints:
* You will encounter a little boy in chapter 2 who wants to bring you to the house of detective Raymond: Follow him immediately.
* There will be an investigation in chapter 2. Geralt should react defensively all the time.
* Invest some talent points in Aard in the first chapter and learn "Herbalism".

This will not happen if you follow my advices.
Btw.: If the journal doesn' help then ask. Here are some longtime residents ...
Alright, thanks for the tips then
Use portions adequately in your battles.
Download the "Faster Movement Mod" and "The Rise of the White Wolf" mod for sure.
If its your first time, play Easy as a couple of bosses are beatable but broken in Hard. You can
always come back and play Hard after you finish Witcher 1, 2 and 3 and get a feeling of progression.
