The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Why do people even play this game?
Ive spent 21 hours on it so far, and I gotta say. I'm not impressed at all. Usually, I love older games and see each one as its own unique challenge. System shock had the level design and combat, Arx Fatalis had its UI and spell system, Kotor had its combat, but so far- (TL:DR at the end)

-Everything is this game just sucks.
Seriously. I haven't had a single sliver of fun during this entire game. I hear all this good stuff about the 'Witcher' as well as read how much people defend Geralt and insist that he is the biggest B.A.M.F in any fantasy game. But he hasn't shown any of that so far. It would be one thing if the gameplay and narrative said two different things, and/or maybe I was just playing poorly. But even the story says that he dies via getting stabbed by random-drunk-villager-NO.3 with a pitchfork. Whats weirder is how everyone defends his death like "Oh, he couldn't maneuver because he was in the middle of a crowd" yet a random villager has enough room to use a pitchfork to impale someone at waist level. Also, Why didnt he just use his signs? Aard probably could have cleared the entire crowd, and igni could have scared them off.

Moving away to the actual game

Now, I haven't read the books as of now, but right at the start we are thrown with a rag-tag group of people inside a castle. The only thing I know is that "Witchers" are not to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with as they are people capable of hunting beasts multitudes more powerful than them. But right out of the gate (literally) we get a bunch of 'bandits' capable of not only fighting them, but pushing them back! Then as we progress through the introduction it seems that things are only getting worse and worse for these so called 'legendary warriors'. Then when an actual monster shows up, these people suddenly rely on Geralt (who at this point barely remembers how to wield a sword) To fight it, which eventually beats.

Honestly at this point in the game I had expected old-mc-♥♥♥♥-face to admit that they were not actually witchers. That they were simply villagers who had found an old Keep with witcher equipment and decided to cosplay.

Then we get to the actual story of the game, but I cant even remember why exactly Geralt was in that small village in the first place. The only thing I remember was that there was a hell hound killing children, and that dogs were killing people. Then geralt is led around by his nose till he finds a witch who is believed to be responsible. She denies and geralt pretty much says "K" and leaves the cave to start a boss fight. I -of course- died instantly as I had wasted my time fighting the adds which I assumed would stop spawning. The second attempt I had actually planned ahead, using potions and making a few more Swallows just in case. But after the intro cutscene all of the potion effects ended.

What.jpg

So after getting curbstomped 3-4 times, I look up how exactly Im supposed to kill the FIRST BOSS of the game, the answer? "Use an exploit.", "Download a mod to remove the fight", etc. Honestly, this almost made me stop playing entirely. What game has a boss fight so poorly designed, that the official wiki just tells people to either glitch through it, or skip it entirely?

Then we get to the actual town. Before, we had been throwing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at the fan, now we begin throwing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ into it. Right away, we are tasked with Killing a monster. Funnily enough, it was easier than the dogs in the first area of the game. Then we move to the actual village where I have NO recollection of what I was even doing. The dialogue and writing is so absolutely horrid that my brain had blocked it out. I remember more from watching my nephew play the telltale minecraft game. The only thing I actually remember is eventually going to a party for shani and having some stoner tell me that I was once friends with a vampire.

Now we move onto the swamp. Jesus, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, Christ. Do I even need to elaborate on how ♥♥♥♥ this area is?

One of the best things about older games is that they rely on a good story to keep players motivated for their usually poor controls. This game? There isn't a decent story for miles. Its all told by characters who sound more bored than Kristen Stewert watching a game of golf. No emotion even when ♥♥♥♥♥ hitting the fan.

Now that You get the general Idea of my view on the story, lets take a step back and look at gameplay. "Surely, it has to be the reason people like this game!" Is what I first thought. Then I spent my time doing side quests and leveling up, unlocking more moves and getting the buffs. The result? I got WEAKER over time. The different attack animations were SLOWER and didn't do nearly enough damage to compensate. I had a higher DPS before the new moves. After I noticed that, I quickly began focusing on my signs. Specifically Aard; As Yrden, Igni, Quen, and Axii were all useless. Why would I use them? With Aard, I could just stun enemies and 1-shot-kill them. Its how I managed to defeat the first boss of the game, and it went so far as to even work on the final boss! Igni? Why would I need DOT if I can just execute. Quen? Cant take damage if enemies are stunned. Axii? Lol. Tbh I forgot it existed. What does it even do again?

Point is, The combat is ♥♥♥♥ and exploitable.

(TL:DR)

Story - ♥♥♥♥
Gameplay - ♥♥♥♥
Characters - ♥♥♥♥

Grading - ♥♥♥♥+.
Gets a small bonus because of the fact that it has to be the worst game I've ever played. I enjoyed Sonic 06 more than this! I had more fun playing cookie clicker on my phone during the loading screens than I had the entire game.

back to my original question. Why do people play this game? Other than the novelty of it being so horribly bad?

He,he, he, kid. Do you think it's an adaquate reaction to your complete incompetence to jump into the toilet bowl - into the middle of your own ♥♥♥♥? Look into the mirror! You're brown around your mouth. Wipe the ♥♥♥♥ from your face before posting again - it looks pretty bad.

But I'm not blind for your problem. An intelligent player would say: That's not my game. Next one. An intelligent player. But what should you do? A Z-class player, but A-class whiner?

I have played Every fallout game, beaten VTMB with every clan, Played and completed system shock 1 and 2. Have beaten Chrono trigger with every possible ending. Those, are masterpieces. This game? A piece of trash that people have Stockholm syndrome for.

Okay, I gotta give you the soundtrack. its one of the first that had managed to almost put me to sleep in my chair. But the atmosphere is nothing special. Honestly it felt like someone played dragon age then thought "Wowie. Rampent racism against the non-human races. Ima dial that up to the point where its edgy and staple it everywhere. Cept the good team, they are the non racist ones!" Unless your talking about the enviroments. In which case, Seriously? It feels like someone went to the unity store, typed "fantasy" then downloaded all the free assets.

Yeah basically you have to stun it.they easiet way to win this is going with the village side insted of witch's.i didn't beat in hard difficulty a bunch of times.if you played your first playthough in hard you must be a madman.i was killed from the beast a bunch of times in easy difficulty in my first playthrough and then i said that this game sucks.but after that i came back i played it on medium and beat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ arse of this dogo.SO YOU ARE SAYING THAT THIS GAME IS BAD BECAUSE YOU COULD NOT BEAT THE FIRST BOSS?you said that you play games that gives you a challenge but i don't think so you look so casual. Even dark souls is harder than this game.My suggestion play it on izi so you can killed the beast.just try to go for stun and then killed it in one shot. But you got to upgrade skills in order to do that. This game is fantastic can't really understand why you hate it.

"Use an exploit.", "Download a mod to remove the fight", etc. Honestly, this almost made me stop playing entirely. What game has a boss fight so poorly designed, that the official wiki just tells people to either glitch through it, or skip it entirely?

Then we get to the actual town. Before, we had been throwing dog♥♥♥♥♥♥at the fan, now we begin throwing bull♥♥♥♥♥♥into it.

Jesus, ♥♥♥♥ing, Christ. Do I even need to elaborate on how♥♥♥♥♥♥this area is?

Point is, The combat is♥♥♥♥♥♥and exploitable.

(TL:DR)

Story -♥♥♥♥♥♥Gameplay -♥♥♥♥♥♥Characters -♥♥♥♥♥♥
Grading -♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I must admit that this game is quite old but is working fine dude. If this is a garbage then why did you played it huh? There are better games afterall with great graphics fortnite pubg apex...JUST KIDDING THEY ARE GARBAGE COMPERED TO THIS SINGLIPLAYER GAME.

Good story, soundtrack and atmosphere.Witcher 1 does those things

Okay, I gotta give you the soundtrack. its one of the first that had managed to almost put me to sleep in my chair. But the atmosphere is nothing special. Honestly it felt like someone played dragon age then thought "Wowie. Rampent racism against the non-human races. Ima dial that up to the point where its edgy and staple it everywhere. Cept the good team, they are the non racist ones!" Unless your talking about the enviroments. In which case, Seriously? It feels like someone went to the unity store, typed "fantasy" then downloaded all the free assets.
Last thing i wanna mention is that you didn't finish it to know if it was any good.atmosphere becames even better in act 4.And if you don't understand a thing about the story go search a video and learn.

Oh and also you have to use your mind to kill the first boss not a mod kid

'use your mind; The wiki literally says to "Hide behind the wishing well" then to use Aard and pray it stuns. Then instant execute it because the devs forgot to make it immune to stuns.
If you read the entire portion, you see that the boss is only one of the things I hate. and here we go again "This game is fantastic" Why? There is nothing good about it.

While I personally didn't get passed act 3, I watched a walkthrough so I could play witcher 2 without any gaps. Tbh, it sounded like the dude playing it was done with life by that point. It was kinda funny because when he hits act V, he just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ groans and says "Seriously, A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ swamp. Again?"

I played it because everyone calls it a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ masterpiece. I'm not new to older games. Hell, I still boot up my PS1 and Ps2 to play the classics, like Sly, MOH,Chrono trigger, etc. Hell, I have emulators out the ass for arcade games.

But Im still trying to figure out exactly WHY people love this game. The only thing I see when I bring up feedback/ratings, is either people heralding this game like its Half life 3, or people saying that it should be rated 1/10 stars for barely working.
