is Witcher 1 after Witcher 3?
Hi, so, im playing witcher 1, but i knew about the story in 3 and some more. But now, some bartender in village told me story about Ciri. And, i am really confused. Like, is witcher 1 after witcher 3? Or is the tale just a big future forecast? god...

No, the story about Ciri is from books. Witcher 1 starts five years after Geralt death.

Exactly, all story is the "universe" about Ciri and Geralt and their theme of destiny. The books are very interesting! :) But the bartender you mention tell this story and Geralt can´t remember nothing.

In this game Geralt can´t remember past (at least most important parts), its the basis of the game like said @Kacper_357. The circumstances starts 5 years after books, and Geralt can´t remember.

Yeah, like i know he was dead, killed by villagers with prong. So that is my question. Is witcher 1 after Witcher 3 and geralt dies and the end of 3... or is it really just tale that is a big accurate prophecy.

I am getting it right? So u saying that geratl dies at witcher 3, and witcher 1 is five years after when he somehow reborns.

No, no, it is the tales of the books. The bartender tell what happen in books. Not future, the past.

It is: Books....... The Witcher 1 * ........... The Witcher 2 .............. The Witcher 3

* Bartender explain story of books (past situation) to Geralt, but he can´t remember his actions, nor Ciri.
Geralt dies (canon) in books. This is the official death.

Hahaha, sorry, look you can think in bartender like a guy that made a joke to Geralt (spoke of `certain´ witcher and certain characters) in front him, but he (Geralt) can´t remember he was indeed the protagonist of that narration because lost memory. Maybe that is more easy.

Sorry if I confused you :D

See you, buddy!

Now you confused me even more. So, ... no wait... i finally get it. So the games are after the books. But... why in the books are thing that are happening in games... that confuses me.

What things for example?

Not hard to grasp. This game takes place directly after the books. Witcher 3 is the last of Geralt's story and takes place after Witcher 2 which comes after Witcher 1.

Yes. What things?

" why in the books are thing that are happening in games... that confuses me."

You speak of characters, maybe?
I mean. In books you find, for instance: Zoltan Chivay, Jaskier, Shani.
And The Witcher show those characters. Such characters speak (in The Witcher) sometimes of CIRCUMSTANCES and THINGS that had place in books (example, Shanni and Battle of Brenna, she mention this in certain quest of the game; or papers ingame that explain how Geralt could help Foltest and princess Adda with the curse years ago).

But never in the books happens things at the same time as in the games, because books are chronologically prior (talking about events).

@Mango say true, it is easy, you must separate in time: Books ----- Games of the Witcher

The arrow goes forward. Not back. Things that you see, read, find in The Witcher occur later related of books. They are people that live future of books. Not past or simultaneously.

Note: you can find confusion only with a character of The Witcher in question about concept of time: Jacques de Aldersberg.
This character is a Source, and due to not receive teachings like Ciri, he can´t control his powers about time and space. Jacques make "loops" in time and you can find strange things in this.

Hahaha, no problem! Enjoy the books, you´ll see that are entertainment and very interesting! ^^
And books help you to understand better the lore of the three games while Geralt is in the world (for instance, places, characters, events, etc.)

See you!

There is some things in the video games that were in the books with stuff like side quests and witcher contracts. I'm reading The Last Wish after I played Witcher 1 and 2 and there are some events from the short stories in the games.
